This is the absolute worst experience I've ever had in a rental property. I was a perfect tenant in an apartment on the Plaza and had paid my rent on time every month. Twenty-five days before I moved out, a fire broke out in the apartment above me. I was not informed by a phone call and found out at 1 a.m. that morning when I was coming home. The apartment had tremendous smoke, fire and water damage. It was unliveable, the ceiling was falling in and the walls were coming down. Everything smelled like smoke. I had to move out immediately. I was told that I would be repaid for the remaining month's rent, but still have not received any payment (8/01). I was also expecting a $200 deposit. The management/owners were such jerks and treat everyone unfairly. These are Park Plaza and Melbourne Apartments on the Plaza in Kansas City, MO.

I was very frustrated when I typed this. How do I edit what I originally posted? I really want people to focus on how awful Del is and not how poor my puncuation and spelling are in the original comment I wrote.

my experience renting from Del was like the other user reported above. We had a gas leak in the Plaza Apartments for over 1 1/2 months. I called the emergency line and left message (they never pick up or follow up on these messages). Finally out of frustration I called MGE and they came and turned the gas off for the whole building until the fixed the two gas leaks. Del and his people acted like I was retaliating against them when in reality I was suffering from the gas leaking. Many of the tenants had leaks in their ceiling that hadn't been fixed for over a 2-3 years. They had a major cockroach infestation in the Plaza Apartments.
They are also notorious for screwing people out of their deposits by making up stories about how you left the property a mess. Plus in your lease if you don't look carefully enough they charge you a 50.00 floor cleaning deposit. Which when I moved in my floors were not cleaned. I could go on and on about Del. The way the didn't clean the vomit that was left in the hallway for over a week. How they come into your apartment without any warning. Del also has a registered sex offender working for him who lives in the Park Plaza apartments. You can go a google search on the sex offenders database and enter the Park Plaza address to verify this. The landlord and his staff are also very rude to their tenants.
