Purchased inspiron 5100 April 2003. Had problems with dark/black screen 4 times. Sent Laptop to depot for repair 3 times. Upon 4th time I requested a new laptop. To my surprise, Elaine in India told me "sure we will send you a new one". I agreed, as she explained that since the 5100 was no longer in production that I would get either and 8600, 9100 or 5150. After doing some research I came to realize that the 5150 and 9100 were larger heavier laptops than the original 5100.

I immediately called tech support.. unfortunately it took 5 phone calls and almost 4 hours to speak with someone who I could not understand, Finally after being transferred to someone else, I was able to articulate my dissatisfaction. They then informed me that I wasn't even getting a new laptop, I was getting a refurbished laptop. Great.. I thought.. now Im getting someone elses headache.

I expressed my dissatisfaction and was told I would hear from someone within 2 business days. Yes someone named Sandra did call and leave me a message. I have called her 12 or 13 times and she has not answered her phone and not returned my call after leaving up to 8 messages.

Aftermastering their phone system and extension configuration, I contacted someone else in Sandra's department who told me that Sandra was on with another customer and would call me back within and hour and a half. It is now 4 hours later and she has not called. I left 2 more messages for her before her day ended at 6:30 pm CMT.

My issues are not resloved and I suspect they never will be based on what I have read on this site.

I propose that complaints about dell computer on this site include contact names and their ID numbers. Perhaps if the employees at dell feel some heat, they may pressure the "powers that be" to be honest and forecoming in their dealings.

I own serveral dell computers and the reason I purchased them was based on their service and reputation. How things have changed since I purchased my first Dell in Novemeber 2002.

I also advise people who have paid their products off in full to close their DELL Fininancial services account immediately.
