I buy computers from DELL. I recommend them to my customers. We buy over 100 per year from DELL. NOT ANYMORE!

I used DELL e-mail tech support. Sure enough, within 1 hour I received a mail asking me to follow 7 (database extracted) steps to fix the CDRW not being recognised. After complaining that I thought this was what I had cover for (next day on-site) I checked their web site which basically says they will send an engineer if in their opinion it is warranted after carrying out some troubleshooting steps. Si I did this work. In all it took a couple of hours. I then replied to the e-mail (9a.m.) support with the results, saying it was obviously hardware and could they send a engineer the following day. I gave them my contact number. The next day I took a day off. No response frrom DELL. A further e-mail sent asking them to reply at 7a.m. No response. I phoned DELL tech support, an engineer has now been booked to come out to me. E-mail tech support had been ignored for over 24 hours (so much for next day service!!).

I complained like hell, all the minions apologised who were not involved. Moral of the story - Customers, don't buy DELL, and if you do just pretend their e-mail support doesn't exist, it'll save a lot of heartache in the end.

DELL service and support is now unacceptably bad. I don't think they care once they've had your money, and recent trends confirm they don't make computers to last either, they break and DELL have the right to ask you to spend hours toiling over them before they'll send anyone out.

I think DELL should be forced to explain their service policy at time of sale. I would then predict one of two things, DELL stop becoming the #1 computer producer or their tech support leaves India and service levels take off like a rocket to the moon.

I think that when companies get too big for their boots, they benefit from customer boycotts to bring them back down to earth. I can only lose them 100 boxes a year, but if we all do it.......
