I brought my 2000 Mitsubishi Galant to have a diagnostic check on my engine since others have been telling me for the last few months that smoke is coming out of the car's exhaust when driving. I've also noticed the smell come through my A/C, The engine would go thru 3 or 4 quarts of oil a month, so something was definitely wrong. Im thinking valve seals are going bad, or failed cat converter among other possibles.

I call and a receptionist with an Asian accent picks up, I tell her whats wrong with the car and I ask if the service dept is available for appt.s on the wknd. She says 'yes' and we book a Sat. at 1pm.

Saturday arrives and I pull up to one of the service bays and wait for about 15 to 20 mintues before anyone acknowledges me there. There were people around. When the service writers asks about the problem, I give him the details and immediately tells me they dont do diagnostic checks on Saturdays. He says of the receptionist 'you know she's a little japanese girl just tryin to help out'. He proceeds to BS me about the vehicle needing an oil consumption test. He says 'what they will do is put oil in the engine up to the fill line and then come back in 30 days and we'll see how much oil the engine has consumed'.

I just so happen to have purchased 2 new tires and asked while we were there if they could mount the front 2. After two hours, they charge me for the mount and I go home. On the way home I could tell the tires were not balanced properly. The car didnt drive steady. After two days I thought Id better check about the oil, I check the dip stick - no oil fill. It was at the same fill line for the quart I put into it just before going to Mitsubishi.

What a waste of time! I call the service manager and he tells me to bring the car tomorrow so they 'could take a look at it'. Thursday morning comes, I make my way to a service writer and he has me sign a form for the charge of the diagnostic check for 89.95. Since a shuttle took me to work in Boca and I had not heard from them all day, I eventually leave 4 unanswered messages until I tell reception that I wont leave a message but want to speak to a live person. It was 3:30, the last shuttle was at 4pm. I finally spoke to someone and they arranged for someone to pick me up. They would have forgotten about me!! I wouldnt have minded so much except I have children to pick up from school.

When I get to the dealership the car still is not ready and after about 15 minutes the service writer says its my rotors thats making the car shake. (LOL) When I asked about the diagnostic check, he said they would mail me the paperwork and that they have now filled the engine with oil. I told him I needed the diagnostic paperwork then and wouldnt I have to pay for the services? He then said 'let me take care of it, we put the oil'. So I came to the obvious conclusion the diagnostic check wasnt done and my car sat from 8am to 5pm for them to fill the car with oil.

Unbelievable.

'Robert from Irvine, CA' - first of all you were not there to be so critical of me. I brought the car in for service because of the problems, and if you follow this thread for the Delray Mitsubishi dealership, I am not the first in the community to voice a complaint about their service. You zone in on my car's problems not the fact of how I was treated while I was there. That is what this thread is about. They can improve, everything is disorganized and other employees bad mouth their own employer's service while I was there. Robert, focus in about the problems in your own community -you have too much time on your hands.

What's unbelievable is that for someone who thinks they know a lot about cars let's their car go months without service. Especially when they are aware that smoke is coming out of the tailpipe, a strange smell from the A/C, and it is going through 3-4 quarts of oil a month. If you were loosing a quart a week it also seems impossible that when you checked the oil level a few days later it was at the same level if they didn't do anything, it should have been noticeably less. Also, it is hard to believe that you just happened to purchase two tires and wanted them to mount them. If you had done proper tire rotations your tires should wear evenly, which means you would replace all 4. If you needed to replace two it means either you didn't do proper rotations, or you had an exisitng mechanical issue causing uneven wear. When you put the two tires on, the difference in tires or wear could easily explain why felt like they were not balanced properly. Also, not sure what a person's accent has to do with anything in this report.
