First they stranded me all night on my birthday with pilots not there for connecting flight. Then on my vacation the myrtle-atlanta flight was late atlanta to lax right on time. sooo I missed it and consequently missed qantas to australia and first day of my vacation.

they also cruelly put about twenty of us on standby for a 9:30 flight which none of us were put on.

suggest more connectors and that they hold a flight when the connector is late.

at least I coulda taken one as far as Atlanta. Sometimes I have to work on a certain day or pack and get ready to leave. True I COULD have taken the 6 AM flight and waited in Atlanta all day but there was no reason to. US carriers all suck

Holding a flight for connecting passengers depends on a lot of things, but it should not be expected. Placing you on standby for a flight was not "cruel" it sounds like a courtesy to me. I'm sure they CONFIRMED you on a later flight, they were just trying to help you by getting you out earlier on the 9:30 flight (which was obviously full), so they put you on STANDBY so that you had the opportunity to get a seat on the earlier flight should one have opened up for you. You may have been bummed that you didn't make it on, but seriously, did it hurt to try? Would you have considered it cruel if you were actually able to get on that flight? If you were able to get on, would you have felt sad if the airline had decided NOT TO HOLD THAT FLIGHT for the person who's seat you're sitting in. Delta flies between Atlanta and Los Angeles about 12 times per day, so lack of connection opportunities is NOT an issue, lol. The trick is, starting your travel in the morning instead of in the evening or late afternoon and like Karl said, always assume the worst. The later in the day that you leave, the fewer alternatives there are if your travel gets disrupted by a delay or cancellation. As far as the pilots not being there for one of your other flights, that happens. Pilots fly multiple flights a day, not always on the same airplane. They have to change concourses and switch airplanes just like you do, and unfortunately sometimes their inbound flights are delayed too. Sucks that it just happened to be on your birthday, but it sounds like just some bad luck to me.

I don't know how many times you fly to Australia but If I were making a connection in LAX for a Trans-Pacific flight I would make reservations on a flight to Atlanta and LAX that was the flight before the last flight that you could take and still make your connection. You should always assume that your connecting flight may be late or even cancelled. In the latter case you would then have one more flight that you could take and still make Quantas if it was on time.
