Direct Financial Savings Classic telephone scam! They called and promised to reduce our credit card APR for only $990. Costa Mesa California
On September 27, 2007, we got a call from several persons (a Mrs. James, Kevin Taylor, and Robert Kenny) purporting to represent Direct Financial Savings. They indicated that they could substantially reduce our credit card APR's. They would charge a one-time fee of $990. for representing us with the various card holders several times over a one-year period. They indicated that if they did not save us at least $990. our money would be refunded.
We requested their information package, and soon received a very professional-looking folder describing how they would negotiate down our credit APR's, and including testimonials from allegedly satisfied customers. With some trepidation, we signed the contract and they deducted $990 from one of our cards. On October 10 we were contacted by "Samantha" of Direct Financial Savings (866-835-1030, ext. 224) and, with us on the line, she negotiated between 1 and 1.5% off the rate charged on two of our cards. She said she would call back in early January to continue the process. She never did!
We called all the Direct Financial Savings numbers that we had several times and got only a pre-recorded message saying, "your call did not go through - please try again. Although the company is still in the financial services business, their web site no longer advertises that they will reduce your credit card debt. That part of the business apparently went away, along with our $990!
