I signed up for what I thought was a good deal on long-distance rates. They had a 10 day free trial and obtained my credit card number from a company I ordered a product from (crazyape.com).

When I signed up on 4/4/03, the rate was $5.95/month for 1000 minutes... when I recieved the welcoming statement 4/4/03 the rate was $59.95/month for 5000 minutes!

I immediately called the phone numbers they gave: 1-800-863-8667 and 1-877-863-8667, neither of which were in service. I sent and email to their email address (return receipt and saved!) on 4/8/03.

I never received a receipt confirmation or a reply. My letter stated that I was cancelling my account effective immediately, and rescinded their right to charge my credit card (this is my right since I was (actually still am) in the "10 day free trial period".

I was charged $61.95 on 4/9/03. Now I must try an resolve this through my credit card company or some other way.

I sent them another email explicitly stating my demand for cancellation and credit back

I sent them another email explicitly stating my demand for cancellation and credit back on 4/13/03 and notified them that I would call them on 4/14/03 to confirm their cancellation and intent to credit back. I did it first thing in the morning and I got the first and last name of the rep. and she confirmed that it had been cancelled on 4/12/02 and authorized for the credit back. That afternoon I got an email to that effect. When I see the credit back, I will believe it. I have been updating my complaint file with the IFCC and keeping documents as well. I think that, while I cannot prove that they changed the terms of the offer, I can indeed prove that they stated I could use the card "anywhere in America" and then, on a page you cannot access until you have already signed up is a statement the says "anywhere in the continental U. S.": I live in Alaska! And I can prove that they charged me before the 10 free trial days were up as well as now being able to prove that they got my first email to cancel my account: their email stating cancellation and that they are crediting back my money was "reply to sender" and my original email is on there. contact the company again and demand that they check to make sure the account is cancelled and charges have been rever

I talked with my credit card company today (4/12) and they managed to find a viable phone # for this company: it is 714-384-7860. My CC company stated that I need to try to resolve the problem with the company and patched me through to them. Representative has stated that the account is now cancelled and the charges will be reversed but refuses to send written acknowledgement of such. I did however get a cancellation confirmation # out of her. I have filed a complaint a www.ifccfbi.gov and am updating my complaint as things happen. My CC company recommended that I do the following: file an official dispute with them on Monday, contact the company again and demand that they check to make sure the account is cancelled and charges have been reversed (get names!) state that I expect to see the reversal in one week or will call the BBB of CA and report them. They have recommended that I contact the local Attorney General's office as well. And keep documentation of all occurances in this matter. I fully intend to.
