I contacted Direct TV because of their advertisements which promised excellent reception, customer centered service and inexpensive pricing.I had been with Comcast for years prior to switching and did so because I am a single mother on a restricted budget and the cost of cable TV and Internet Service (bundled through AT&T) was significantly less expensive. I never had reliable service. Ever. Direct TV has this all documented and credited me back for service each month. I even allowed their technician to cut down a decorative tree in attempt to work with them in providing cable service. It didn't work. I stayed with them, calling frequently about the lack of service. This included the fact that I ordered several movies, and was charged for them, but was unable to watch the movies because of no service. It would just cut out, pixilate, and was just un-watchable! I was not credited back the cost of these movies.There was a 3-4 week period where I was just fed up and didn't call. The representative insisted I must have had coverage during this time. When I said I'd tried long enough going without cable TV and wanted to cancel, the representative transfered me and I was told rudely that I could not cancel without the cancellation fee!This bill has now been submitted to the credit bureau and I'm being subjected to many collection calls. I let them know the situation and the collection company said I had to call Direct TV. So I did and they told me I had to write Direct TV's Billing Dispute Department. I am sooo frustrated. I'm not sure how this, or if this will be resolved, but I am not paying the cancellation fee!

Directv is not cable - it is satellite. If you are a single mother on a budget then what are you doing with satellite tv, ordering movies and internet service? These are luxuries not necessities.

I have had Directv for 8 years and when I signed up I knew about the cancellation fee because I signed a contract.
