First, my other complaints about Dish Network mirror so many others. Horrible customer service, nonenglish speaking reps, lies and more lies about rebates, bogus charges, erroneous charges, free installation (hahaha), failure to correct billing statements, refusal to credit back THEIR errors... no need to elaborate it appears.

My newest (and mind blowing to me) complaint is that they are charging me a penalty of $5.00 per box per month because I don't have a landline. I've read their FAQS and sorry, I don't need and have never attempted to use their "additional services". I don't think I've ever been to channel 100, I've never attempted to access my customer info through the tv, and don't need the tv to order pay per view movies. So, obviously the lack of a landline doesn't hurt me as I get all my channels just fine. But I'm penalized! What a joke. I guess it boils down to me paying them $10.00 per month because I choose NOT to optimize their services. Just doesn't pass the smell test to me.

It just screams class action to me.

if you had 4 indiviual receivers in the house . you would pay full price on the programming on the first box. then each box after that 5.00 a month for the mirror image programming. on the dual tuners as long as the phone line is connected . you save the 5.00 a month on the second half of the receiver ( 2 dual tuners save you 10.00 a month ). not knowing what receivers you got. but some of the newer ones have the ability to connect to a broadband connection. the dual tuners save the customer the money whenever possible. the installer or dealer should have explained the dual tuner to you. i got a customer who i installed 2 dual tuners ( connected to a phone line ). i put them both in the living room. added a uhf modulator. then mixed that with her local antenna. she now can go to any tv in her home watch locals and any of the 4 tuners from that room. the only bad thing about the whole setup is. that it penalizes the customers who dont have a phone line. what the dual tuner stops. is those people who have indiviual boxes. by putting each receiver in a location ( home and lake property ). the stand alone receivers should be connected to a phone line. you cant put a dual tuner in 2 different locations . they're trying to stop those people taking advantage of the system . who should be paying full price for the seperate locations. those people who try to beat the system . usually end up hurting those that are honest.

Program Acess fee...and direct having dual tuners

Okay first off i would like to say that the dual tuners are wonderful rcvrs. Yes, they do require the phone line and just as Matt stated, is the exact same charge as the "ADDITIONAL OUTLET FEE" that any other company would apply to the bill. Now on the note about Direct tv, i am a TSR in the Mck call center and the one thing that i can say is that when Direct TV contacted me to offer me service at a better rate than what i am currently pay at Dish (or so they thought would be a better rate), they very proudly stated that they do not offer the DUAL TUNER RCVR and NEVER WILL. Dish network is the only company that has them. So let me explain exactly what the dual tuner is. The dual tuner does not allow you to record one programing and watch another on on the same tv only, but allows you to watch two different tv's in two different rooms with there own separate programing, how ever if the rcvr is in single mode, it will allow you to watch one thing on tv1 and then record something else on tv1 at the same time. JUST SO THERE IS SOME CLARIFICATION ON THAT.

$5.00 penalty

After painstakingly going over each and every fee when first ordering, this was never mentioned. I wasn't present when it was actually installed unfortunately. The $5.00 (x2) wasn't added to the bill until the 3rd month of service. Would love to cancel but after reading horror stories about how Dish handles cancellation fees - I don't think so! For whatever it is worth, it took 3 months to get them to drop the 3 additional receiver fees we were being charged. Funny, they never existed! When I asked to be credited back to the first phone call pointing out their error, I was flat out refused. BTW, still no rebate after 2 + months. No surprise. Come September 2008, trust me, there will be no DishTv in my house.

Only one to offer Dual receiver?

#8Consumer Comment

Sat, December 29, 2007

I just wanted to note that Dish is not the only one to offer the dual receiver. Direct TV does as well. When I was a Direct TV subscriber I had the Dual Receiver DVR (could watch one channel and record another) the company waived my "no land line fee". Perhaps Direct TV would be another option for you?

Your newest complaint? How long have you been with Dish? If it for more than a few months, then what doesn't "pass the smell test" is that you are still a customer! Seems by that post you are doing nothing but finding something to b**ch about. If you are that unhappy with the service, then cancel your service. PS Like Matt said, it is alllll in the service agreement that you signed at the start of service. No lawsuit will stand up to that....

Programming Access Fee

#10UPDATE Employee

Mon, December 10, 2007

It is true that Dish Network charges a $5 Programming Access Fee for all dual-tuner receivers not connected to a land-based phone line. However, Dish Network is also the only company to offer a dual-tuner receiver - so with ANY OTHER COMPANY, or if you had two single-tuner receivers to work with those two TVs, you would be paying that same charge in additional receiver fees. Therefore, connecting those receivers to a phone line (sounds like you have two, since you mentioned $10 per month) is an option we do offer to save money to work all the same TVs. If you cannot, or will not, we charge exactly the same costs as if you had separate receivers. This was all in the contract you signed (see http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/about_us/residential_customer_agreement/index.shtml - section 2.E). This is the same contract found in the user manual of every model receiver Dish Network has EVER offered, as well as on the website and on Channel 100. By activating your services, you agreed to all the terms listed here. Any lawyer would tell you the same thing - it's completely legal, you agreed to it, so any lawsuit would be frivolous.
