Many years ago, I was a victim of a fraud such as this one. Since then I have received countless items through regular mail and emails trying to get money for various reasons that usually sound too good to be true -- and they are! You get a story or a promise of merchandise, send in the "small payment" and receive nothing.
This one offers a "free" Nippon camera complete with all the goodies. All they want from you is $13.78 to ship it, and please add $1.00 for handling. Doesn't sound like that much money for a camera that you hadn't even ordered, does it? Unless you never get the camera. My initial reaction was that it was something I'd won from a contest or sweepstakes that I had entered some time ago. However, contests and sweepstakes don't have you pay for winning.
It also states on the front "$2,000.00 FINE OR 8 YRS. IMPRISONMENT or both for any person who interferes with or obstructs delivery of this letter or otherwise violates (I don't have the symbol they used on keyboard) 18 United States Code 1702 et seq." Nice touch -- giving it a sense of credibility...
Whenever I receive anything like this, I always check it out on my computer to find out if it's legit. So far, they have all been bogus.
