DMI URGENT NOTIFICATION #15640 Carrollton Texas
The above mentioned company (DMI), sent a eye catching "Urgent Notification" re: phtographic equipment they are holding at the Central Clearing House. They wanted me to mail $19.79 including shipping & handling. Then, they mentioned what exactly it is for: Nippon 35mm Focus Free camera, including 50mm optical lens, automatic film counter, rapid wind film advance w/double exposure guard, hot shoe synchronized for electronic flash, and carrying strap.
Next step: "For immediate shipment, make check or money order payable to DMI & return this notice in the envelope provided. This is the full purchase price of all the merchandise described. (Assigned #: 12564810, Record Locator #; 1003MW5.
Outside envelope has the following: PERSONAL & CONFIDENTIAL $2000 Fine or 18 yrs. imprisonment or both for any person who interferes with or obstructs delivery of this letter or otherwise violates SS 18 U.S. Code 1702et seq. See Title 18 Sec. 1708 U.S. Code,
Theft of U.S. Mail is punishable by fines of up to $2000 or 5 years in prison or both.
(This is another one of multitudes of SCAMS which the average person with minimal education is very likely to fall for).
