I was interested in purchasing a dog from Doghouse danes. Several times I tried to contact Ashley and set up a meeting. After finally visiting the dogs I was appalled at the quality and condition. Her dogs are left in cages inside her home for HOURS at a time (her roomate confirmed this). She lets them stay in their "doghouse" basically a shop for hours and there is feces everywhere. One of the dogs was missing hair and very skittish. The male she is using to breed was agressive and grolwed at me several times while I was there. The dogs were underweight. She calls herself a "pet nutritionist" but really she cannot afford to feed her own dogs! She gives them these odd mixes of food but great danes need specific nutrient balances (I am a vet tech and have been one for 15 years). I asked several questions about the dogs, behaviors, health, etc. and she was very sketchy on her answers. I choose not to purchase a dog from her.

I later seen her dogs stuck in her vehicle (several of them) while she was inside a store. I walked to to the vehicle and the vehicle was full of feces/urine and cardboard. It was SAD to say the least. When I asked her if she has a breeding licnese as per required for Lane County, Oregon she did not! She is breeding these dogs illegally. Some of her dogs are terrible representatives of great danes. Additionally, she is breeding a blue merle which should not be bred to other types of dogs to create "hybrids!"

This lady should be stayed away from at all costs. I have found a different local breeder to purchase from. She also reports that she has been breeding for two years. Yet, the oldest dog she has bred is just now two years old. This is her first litter! Hello?! Story does not add up! Buy from her and you will regret it!

This is in response to a mean spirited ripoff report about Ashley Slocum & her breeding of Great Danes...I recently purchased a 8wk old male Blue Dane from Doghouse Danes and have zero complaints. Ashley is a very warm and friendly Dog Breeder to work with. We live in Tacoma Washington, and Ashley took the time to drive our new puppy 4 1/2 hrs to us. Our new addition "Jax" is our first Dane, and came to us in great spirits and very healthy. Our Vet can confirm that. Even though  I did about a years worth of research before getting him, I knew i would still have questions. Ashley has been very helpful, answering all of my anxious questions, and not making me feel silly for asking. You can tell that she very much cares for the well being of the animal, even after it leaves her care. I love knowing that Ashley is always just a txt away. I would not hesitate to purchase another amazing puppy from her. We love our Jax! And Ashley!

To clear up the comment about us on ripoff report online. My dogs are very well cared for and are my pets first and formost. They are in large (6x6, 4x4) kennels while I am at work only. and as you can see by my posts of pictures of the food I have made for them on our facebook page. They are fed very well and are not underweight by any means. There has been no one out here to meet the dogs that hasnt got a puppy and those who were only met the parents and julius my blue merle. I have been breeding for two years but was working with another breeder for part of that. I chose to go off on my own due to their poor standards of treatment. I only have one dog that has any missing hair and it is because she chewed on it when I first brought her home (less then 30 days ago). since you are a vet tech you should know how long it takes hair to grow back. Also, my dogs are not left in the car in hot weather. Durring colder months they go most places with me if available. also, my blue female is skittish because of abuse she received from the breeder I worked with previously. When I got her back she was skin and bones with hips, spine, and all ribs exposed. she also had missing hair and injuries that were untreated. She is now in perfect health with a clear coat thanks to my care and "weird diet". my stud is very friendly while I am around so if you were trying to make contact with him while I wasnt there do you expect him to be nice to strangers in his area? This dog crawls in my lap and insists on sleeping on top of me and is no way dangerous unless you are an intruder. also, I am a pet nutritionist and work in local pet stores every weekend assisting pet parents with their pets nutritional needs. I also know all about breeding merles. yes they can be bred under the right circumstances. Aka the only issues arise if the merle gene is in both parents. Hence why he is listed to be bred under perfect situations only! im not sure who this person is as I have never met them. Those of you who have met my dogs know how well they are treated. They are my kids and im sure the people I work with are tired of me talking about them as they are my life and all I talk about. It saddens me to have someone say such a thing when my dogs are amazing and only getting better. also as per lane county law, I do not need a breeding license as I live out of city limits and have less then 8 dogs. There is also no urine or fecal matter in my suv.
