I rented a car for 1 day to go from Newark Airport and drop off my daughter in NW New Jersey at a friend's house. I drove there, spent the night, and drove back to the airport around 11am and returned the car around 2pm. I didn't use any toll roads, and a month after I got back, I received a violation stating that the vehicle I had was on a toll road in Albany, NY at 6:30am. They charged me the $7.50 toll fee plus $20 "service fee". I was over 100miles away and the car was parked at the time! I have proof of this and witnesses to this. I disputed the charge with Dollar Violation dept, and they closed the case and said I had to pay it, and charged my Credit Card. I tried to dispute with my credit card company, but because I signed an "agreement" stating I could be charged, they wouldn't help me. I sent Dollar gas receipts and a signed letter from my friends stating I (and the car) was at their address. NONE of this did any good.
