As a recent college grad in a smaller US city, I was job searching. I already had a job, but was looking for something that actually required a degree. I found an add looking for "10-15 entry level college grads". The company sold "sporting and event tickets/home improvement supplies". I thought it looked interesting, unfortunately there wasn't a company name with the add.

I called the number listed and a woman answered the phone "Marketing." I signed up for an interview. When I went to the interview I met with the owner, Jim, who had owned the company for maybe a year and a half but was previously a welding supervisor. He made the company sound like a fun, and exciting place to work, so I signed up for a second interview which was to take place later that week, but I was to block a 4 hour span so I could "job shadow".

When I went to the second interview the "job shadowing" was following a "leader" around a Home Depot trying to get Home Depot customers to sign up for a free cabinet refinishing estimate. I was really confused, because I was under the impression that this was either an hourly/salary position. In fact, the pay was $20 a lead. Which means for however many people I got to sign up for the estimate, I got $20.

I was also told, I would only be doing that for about 3 months before I could move up in the company ranks. The "positive" side of all this was that I could own my own company within a year, doing something similar. The obvious negative is that there is no gaurantee of pay. I turned down the job, and wasted an afternoon.

Through this, I learned a valuable lesson, research any company that wants to hire you. I just received a call from a Frisco Promotions, Inc, wanting to set up an interview. I researched them, and not only could I not find even a phone number listed to that company, I found this website: http://ripoffreport.com/reports/0/379/RipOff0379918.htm.

Please college grads, beware this type of "immediate hiring". It's a scam and a waste of time.

i had the same experiance with them too, but instead of my second interview being only 4 hours long mine was from 10am-10pm. And your right your not gaureented anything when you go into a home depot store. The week that i was there i would have meetings with jim about this job and would tell him everytime that your not promised anything at the end of the week. And he would just keep beating arond the bush. When it came time for me to get my check they said no we can not give you a check b/c you do not have a employee id number, oh boy did that ever set me off, i went to the ohio civil rights commissions, and i ended getting my check, now im waiting on my w2 which probably wont come. What company has all males except for two receptions working for them, come on thats kinda odd. The owner jim looks a bit fake.
