I have been a mystery shopper for years and have not had any issues with the various companies I have worked with.  However, I performed a shop for DSG Associates on Saturday, April 11, 2015 and completed the shop the same day.  I was later informed that my shop was invalid because it was not performed at the correct time.

When requesting a shop, the shopper have to select that they accept the shop, read the shop details, and select a date and time that they can perform the shop.  If the shop cannot be performed at a certain time, the system will reject the shopper's time selection.  Additionally, when performing a shop, the shop details will clearly state what the shopper will need to do and if services should be performed in any particular order, the shop details will mention that.

I selected my shop time, which the system accepted and it was within the time frame mentioned for the shop.  There was not a mention of services performed in a particular order, so I went to the venue, at my selected time, viewed their restrooms first, counted the customers dining, counted the customers in line, and viewed all the workers.  I then placed my order and the cashier got my food and rung me up for payment.  The receipt showed that I was at the facility at that particular time, but DSG Associates stated my shop was invalid because the receipt reflected 7 minutes after the scheduled time.

My question here is, why would a shopper go there to view the venue and their workers in no particular order and the shop is invalid?  Why would a shopper have to time the employees and if they are slower than they should be, the shopper is to blame and the shop becomes invalid?  Should I have ran in the venue at the selected time, run down all customers, and forced the employee to ring up my order to reflect the exact time, down to the second, for my shop to be valid?  I was not informed that I could not go a minute over my select shop time for the shop to be valid.  How can a shopper fully perform a shop in under 1 minute?

DSG Associates, you should be truely ashamed of yourselves!  You have shoppers waste their money and waste their valued time to perform a shop for you.  You submit these shops, performed by shoppers, to the venues and pocket the money for yourselves and inform the shopper the shop is invalid, when it clearly is valid.  Someone needs to shut this fraudulent company down!

We have been in business for 35 years and we do pay shoppers for all valid shops accepted by our client. Our clients do have very specific insturctions that need to be followed and if they aren't, the client will not accept the shop. We always pay as promised for valid shops.

With regard to this specific situation, it is difficult for me to comment without the specific location information and the ability to look at the shop more closely. Of course if you arrived at the location at the time required and all parts of the shop were completed correctly, then we would pay you for the shop. I would be happy to look at this report more closely and discuss the situation to see if we can remedy and confirm that you did indeed complete the shop as instructed. If you would like you can contact me at [email protected] or 818-574-5434.
