After seeing an ad on Craigslist for a stainless steel refrigerator, we purchased a GE fridge from Duarte Appliance in San Bernardino on 6/24/2012 for $275.00. The fact that they DO NOT have a legitimate sign for the business should have been a reason to turn away... BUT we were told that the fridge was in excellent condition and everything worked properly. I was told that there was a 1 year warranty on all parts and labor. If there was ever a problem to just call and it would be taken care of. We received a discounted price because we agreed to take the fridge as is (dirty and disgusting) and do the cleaning ourselves. The next morning we noticed that the ice maker was continuously making ice and had to be shut off manually so that the ice didn't over flow. We called "Enrique" and was told that he would come out to fix the problem within a few days. When we didn't receive a call back within a few days, we called again. Again we were told that he would be by to fix the problem. I called the number that was originally listed on Craigslist and a young girl told me to call Gilbert. I got a hold of a Gilbert and was told that Enrique did not have the part, that's why he hadn't called me back. We had an event scheduled for 4th of July and needed a working ice maker- I asked Enrique to come by. He agreed to come by before 12pm- NO CALL NO SHOW. On Saturday 7/7/2012- We were told by the owner (Alicia) that he was waiting on the ice maker part and would be out in a "few days". The fridge finally stopped working all together on Monday 7/16/12. I called Enrique. He came out Tuesday 7/17/12. He said it needed freon and to let it defrost. We let it defrost and plugged it back in today. Still having the same problem. All of our food has had to be moved to a family members house. I called Gilbert today was told that he and the owner are out- and no one knows when they will return. I finally got a hold of Alicia- she wanted to have Enrique come pick up the fridge and take it to fix it. She said that we could have a "loaner" fridge. I said no, that we just want out money back. She said NO and told me to take her to court. I will be filing MANY complaints against these people until they do right by us.
