my story is a lot like everyone elses whos been ripped off my ebays half.com, everything was going great at first, when my sales were of used books and never topped more than a few hundred per payment cycle, but the trouble began when i started selling more and earning more money. i think half.com is living off the interest rates, b/c its always the same story, you make $1,000+ selling new items and theyre not too eager to hand over your money. i dont see why they have to hold your payment for 2 weeks in the first place but that seems to be the going rate, so to speak, as amazon marketplace does the same thing (i never had any problems selling on amazon.com). at any rate, i sold 30 video games within a 3-day period, earnings topped the $1,200 mark, and like a lot of other sellers whove been ripped off, half.com put my account on "vacation" for no apparent reason! they never so much as warned me or anything, just up and closed me down! and guess when? you guessed it, the day they were supposed to deposit my payment into my bank acct! i called them, but it was no surprise to me at that time their number is bogus. they do not have telephone customer support, email only. odd, dont you think? so i called their parent company, ebay, who was instructed by half.com to shut me down, as well. i told them to take some responsibility for their bratty child, half.com and ebay said whereas they might own half.com, the dealings and goings on of half.com is completely out of their hands! yeah right! by the way, trying to get through to ebay on the phone isnt so easy, either. plus, they all but force you to use their live chat to resolve any issues you may have, trouble is, like many of you, the minute i complained to ebay via their live chat sessions, the operators kept ending my session without even so much as a goodbye! i guess they were strapped for answers, or just didnt give a rats tushy. who knows.
so i email half.com (by the way, you can look up half.coms number at whois, but you still cant get through to a live person, the automated message tells you to email them), and they promise to reply within 24-48 hours, 72 hrs tops. lo and behold, 2 weeks pass and finally, i get an answer. again, very generic in nature, no explanation as to why they shut me down, just the same song and dance they give everyone else who dares make $1,000+ per payment cycle, asking me to prove my identity! as if the proof i provided during registration was not enough! they wanted me to fax them (at $1.50 per flippin page, no less!) all my personal info, driver license, bank accts, resent credit card statement, etc. basically, give them all the info they ALREADY have, and they promise to reinstate my acct. im not stupid, im not about to send these crooks anymore info than they already have on file (get this, they promise to shred all evidence afterwards, im sure!).
then they make you wait at LEAST 90 days afterwards to be reimbursed. only, theres no real guarantee youll ever see your money, either way, whether you provide this information and get your acct reinstated or not, so why bother? if half.com and ebay are THAT desperate, greedy, poor, stupid, whathaveyou, let them keep my money. no one dares stand up to them, theyve got presence, the money grubbers! where would they be if they did NOT cheat their best sellers of their money? where would they be, in fact, if they did business honestly, and actually paid their sellers the same exact amount they charge for shipping on their site, then turn around and give the seller a fraction of the cost they charge to ship their items?! theyd be in the poorhouse, thats where! lets say i sell a book for a dollar, half.com charges the buyer $4 for shipping, but only gives me $2.50 shipping reimbursement, then when the buyer wants a refund for whatever reason, half.com (and get this!) actually makes me refund the ENTIRE $4 for shipping, leaving me negative profits, plus they charge a 15% commission, to boot!!!!! argh!!!!! thats totally unfair. this type of business should not be able to operate, as it clearly is ripping people off. why they havent been shut down before is beyond me. i do not recommend selling brand new items in bulk or making anymore than a couple of bucks per payment cycle on half.com, or else you risk losing your money to the theives!!!!! and dont look to ebay for support, either. bunch of liars, the lot of them!!!!! and thanks for listening.
