Have called me several times and have gotten more threatening each time.  Have tried to explain that I will not pay without backup or proof of the debt.  States that they hope I have my stuff together because I will be arrested, taken to court and will be hearing from their attorney.  Hung up.  Have called from more than one telephone number.  Can I be arrested for not paying a debt?  Also calling and harrassing my family.

Alabama,
RECORD THEIR CALLS AND FILE COMPLAINTS

i WOULD START BY RECORDING THEIR CALLS.  RECORDING EQUIPMENT IS CHEAP.  iT WILL END ONCE YOU RECORD AND FILE COMPLAINTS.

File a complaint with your state attorney general and Consumer financial protection bureau. (U.S. government agency)

You need to fight back and end this by recording them.  If they are calling on a cell phone.  There is low cost programs that will record.

Hire a NACPA attorney.  The threats they make are illegal onless they have grounds to do that.  This very rare.  They are using this to get you to pay a scam debt.

Do not give them banking information or fall for their threats.

Good luck and report back.  This will help others.

Refusing the validate a debt in writing is the #1 sign of a scam. File a complaint against them at FTC.GOV using whatever information you have.
