It is difficult to respond to the allegations of 'Kimmy' as the factual situation she describes does not fit the profile or circumstances of any of our past or current clients. Further, as we were never notified by this site as to these allegations and we do not know the identity of this person, a meaningful response is difficult. Also, having to respond in this fashion raises concerns about the ethics of publishing libelous statements on the Internet, without notifying the opposing side to obtain their position. Our firm has never had this type of allegation before. For many years, Attorney Edward Castro and myself have both been very active in supporting the San Diego family law community by providing volunteer services to the Superior Court as Mandatory Settlement judges, as well as the implemetation of a pro bono (free) legal services program for San Diego family law litigants who have been hit by the current recession. Once the program is developed, we are hopeful other family law firms will implement these strategies, which will allow them to represent more pro bono clients on a cost effective basis. Readers of these kinds of complaints should understand that all divorce attorneys have represented clients who choose to respond emotionally to their issues by demanding to 'play hardball' and by behaving in a manner that does little more than drive up their attorney's fees. There are many fine divorce attorneys in San Diego, who like our firm, will caution clients about making decisions that are based on fear, anger or retaliation. Yet, these people are so hurt and upset, they are often blinded by their emotions and they disregard their attorney's advice, racking up enormous fees. At the time of trial, a judge will often order a house to be sold to pay for attorney's fees. We have devised a method to help clients understand all aspects of the divorce process, including the amount of legal fees it will take to achieve the results they desire. Every month our clients are given a '60 day projection' as to the efforts we are taking on their behalf and the associated costs. If our client wishes to change strategy based on the costs of litigation, we work with them to achieve the best result possible. Most of our cases are referred by therapists, other lawyers and past or current clients. We believe the faith our referral sources place in our services is related to this feature.
