Enchanted Cottage in the Woods Tawnya Johnson Tennessee Cabin Rental scam - Pigeon Forge area, Internet
Paid in advance for a cabin in Tennessee for our vacation. When we arrived at 7pm - after traveling 10 hours to get there, we were unable to reach said cabin, as the drive had not been plowed and it had a 2/10 of a mile up hill climb to reach it. So the cabin was unaccessible. and we had to get accomodations at a local motel.
Owner/ manager of said cabin verbally agreed to give me a full refund, she then wrote on the back of one her own business cards that she was going to send me a full refund. Long story short, after many emails of her stating she is going to send me a refund, she now states that they will not be sending me one, and that they are filing bankruptcy on the cabin.
I dont buy that, because they are still advertising and renting out the cabin. They are trying to just keep my money for nothing.
We were unable to stay in the cabin because of them, not clearing the drive way. They claim the cabin is handicap accessible, but how can it be when you cant even reach it.
Then they claim that I can use it within 6 months... but if its going through bankruptcy, its not theres to rent in 6 months.. I believe I have been swindled out of my money and I hope that this will prevent others from getting ripped off by this scam.
According to the travel board of Tennessee, this happens quite often.. tourists, pay.. then find out that they cant get to their cabins and the cabin owners, just keep their money claiming inclement weather...
It is apparently posted in their rental agreements.. however.. in my case they never got a signed rental agreement from me.
I on the other hand have the cancelled check with her signature on it, her written note of sending me a full refund & many emails stating that my refund is coming.
I would not recommend these "flip key" cabins to anyone.. especially because flip key wont make this right either. BEWARE if you rent cabins in Tennessee (especially during winter months).. its how they make their money.
