Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I was working with a debt company in Winter park when it became apparent that I should investigate filing bankruptcy. Since my experinece with the debt counselor left me feeling like I had been in competent, professional hands, I made the incorrect assumption that I would have a similar experiece with Eric Lanigan, attorney housed under the same "swanky" roof.

My issue with filing bankrupcty had to do with a property that was owned by myself and a family memeber. This situation had already been discussed with Eric when the debt counselor told him I would require a meeting. When I met Eric, and before we even sat down to talk, I began to mention the real estate issue which he said "he knew about and that he felt he could take care of it".

It was during this meeting when Eric told me I would need to fill out a vast amount of paper work and list assets. Eric specifically mentioned jewlery. I told him the Rolex I was wearing was all I had left and that I had an appointment to sell the watch after my meeting with him. He inquired as to how much I was selling the watch for and, coincidentially, it was the same amount he would charge me for the case. He told me he would take the watch to give to his son in lieu of a check and I agreed.

Since the real estate owned was the issue, Eric could have said...we need to determine the value prior to going forward with the bankrupcty, or not, DURING OUR VERY FIRST MEETING.  Instead, he had me complete the copious amount of tedious paperwork. In addition, Eric NEVER returned my calls. In fact, the only returned call I ever recieved was due to the debt counselor asking him to do so. (Eric would blame his secretary for this during a meeting.)

Long story short, after months of getting nowhere, a third meeting took place where Eric said I should NOT FILE. He then said he would help me get rid of/reduce IRS debt. At least I would get something for the Rolex...or so I thought. Instead, no returned calls and no IRS assistance. When I finally reached him, he told me that he had said no such thing and that it would cost me. (No mention of fees to take care of this was ever mentioned.)

Emails were sent back and forth in reference to his inappropriate and despicable behavior. He offered to refund me $500.

The bottom line...Eric knew form the beginning that the real esatate was a problem but chose to put me thorough additional hell with months of no real advice, no returned calls (except one) and HE WEARS THE ROLEX...not his son. Steer clear!!!!! Financial issues are stressful enought. Find someone honest and with integrity to help you through it.
