Gaunitz Laser and Hair Growth Centers is a total Rip-off. Beware of Fraud. Stay away from this company. I went to Hair Growth Centers and used their laser treatment for more than twelve months. The laser itself does not do any good. They use Rogaine in their treatment to generate hair growth. Everyone knows that Rogaine will give use some peach Fuzz. That's exactly how much hair I grew. The system does not grow your hair at all. Simply you will pay Gaunitz Thousands of dollars for using Rogaine. You can buy Rogaine over the counter for about $30 a month. Your hair will not grow because of their system. If you see changes, it's because they give you Rogaine. This is the biggest scam of the century. Gaunitz Hair Growth Centers, Hair Growth Centers and Evolution Hair Centers is the biggest Rip-off of the century. Beware of Fraud.

The situation previously reported against the North Scottsdale Evolution Hair Center (EHC) has been resolved between both parties.  The Founder of EHC, Mr. William Gaunitz, has been directly involved, persistent and more than helpful in bringing this matter to a close. It became apparent at the onset of conversations with Mr. Gaunitz that he is indeed concerned about his clientele and what transpires with clients in affiliate locations.  This matter is considered closed.

I Cant Even Believe Anyone Would Write This. This is Absurd. This is Slander!

This is clearly Slander written by the first person who posted this Rip Off Report as an attempt to Slander me and harm to my business. These statements are unbelievable to me and ridiculous.

First of all, there are multiple formulas on the market in the USA that are similar to ours. Some of which are sold by the publicly traded company, DS Laboratories. The Hair Loss Control Clinic that has 80+ locations in the USA and more worldwide also sells 5% Minoxidil formulas with other ingredients. Here are links to just a few:

Secondly, I have been in business for nearly 11 years with a perfect BBB record. I have painstakingly and tireless worked directly with hundreds if not thousands of people in pursuit of getting their hair back. I have given back refunds, extended programs, and given so much of time to clients that it has even compromised my health.

I have done everything possible to help my clients and provide them with the best treatment possible every time. I have tried to satisfy people even when its not good for the bottom line or is not fair to the company. My bottom line is that my clients come first. That is what good service and good business is all about. Treat your clients like you want to be treated and exceed their expectations.

I not only have 11 years of experience in clinical hair growth treatment, but I am continuing my trichology education to learn more and enhance my skill set even more to help people including those with Alopecia Areata. I am actually traveling right now to pursue that goal.

At my clinic, I meet with every single client who is in a clinical program. I look at them in the eye every three months and monitor their progress personally. I teach them what they need to do to keep and grow their hair back. In some cases, I have not been successful. But most of the time, I succeed with flying colors.

This greed statement is absolutely absurd! I give away my time in scalp checks, I include product in programs that I did not have to, and I continue to pay back debt that is not my own. I make good with every client or at least provide additional services and exhaust all options. I have even addressed the Gr8danes issues personally even though it came out of an affiliate location.

I am honest and probably more giving of myself then I should be, but this is what I do. I committed to my business even when its an uphill battle, even when I get fake negative reviews from competitors, and even when the going gets really tough. You cant help everyone, but I certain try.

If you are reading this and think this a reflection of my company, I challenge you to at least come in for a consultation. If you walk through my door and get any other sense then what I have described above, you can simply turn around and walk out.

This is what I do. Not for money, although it is a business. Its to finish what I started 11 years ago in creating an option for people to naturally regrow their hair back. I did not have this option 13 years ago when I became noticeably thin. I had to create the full program that is here today.

I agree with Mr. Houston 100 %.  I am also a victim of this Hair Fraud committed by Gaunitz and his mobsters in his fraudulent NON-LICENSED Hair Clinics.  I was a client a few years back and I never saw any hair growth.  I have met so many people in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area who lost thousands of dollars to this fraudulent man.  He should be put away in jail and locked forever.

Furthermore, these so called AMb and PMb Formulae are illegal drugs that are being sold in the market by Gaunitz and his Fraudulent Evolution Hair Centers to the general consumers without Prescriptions

5% Minoxidil and 2% Minoxidil are over the counter medications.  But, once you start adding ingredients and mixing other agents with these formulae, then they become compounded medications that REQUIRE a Doctor Prescription.  Selling Compounded Medications and Drugs without Prescription is ILLEGAL and against State and Federal LAWS.  THIS IS A FELONY PUNISHABLE WITH UP TO LIFE IN PRISON.  Mr. GAUNITZ has been lucky so far but the FDA and FBI are researching his Fraudulent Organization and business Practices.  They are on his tale.  A few complaints have been submitted to the FDA just last month about his so called Natural Process selling Minoxidil and Compounded Medications without a Prescription to the general public and desperate consumers.  It's just a matter of time before he is put AWAY and his STORY of AMERICAN GREED will be news on MSNBC.

Hello William,

While you are checking in to the "case", I too, in the interim will also address your rebuttal as well.

You state that a physician is not required to dispense OTC drugs - true, but a licensed pharmacist is required by law to do so.  That is why the places you reference -  like Costco, Walgreens, WalMart, CVS and the like can - because they possess a license to do so, and also all happen to either have or are a pharmacy with state licensed pharmacists.

Next you state that your bottles are all labeled in accordance with FDA guidelines.  Lets look at what is required by law, and what your bottles have on them:

The following information listed below are the "drug facts"- as required by law according to the FDA to be on the label or box of any product containing 5% Minoxidil.

The items bolded are those found on the Gaunitz PM and PMb topicals clearly showing the fact that the missing information is in direct violation of CFR 21 Chapter 1, Subpart A ,section 208.1 (a), (b), (1) and (2).

Since the information on your topicals is severely lacking in the required verbiage by law, then why would your clinics NOT provide a complete Consumer Safety Sheet on the product you dispense covering all the information required as well as the side effects?  I do believe the answer is obvious.

Your next comment states "Additionally you can see on WebMd and the American Hair Loss Association websites that doctors will prescribe double our dose of Minoxidil  to women
because it provides better results than 2% alone. Again that is double the dose that we use."

So are you stating that you actually use 10% Minoxidil on women?  I am confused here, as your bottle clearly states it is 5%, which as shown above does NOT have all the required FDA information on the bottle as required by law.  Only 2% Minoxidil is authorized OTC for women in accordance with the FDA and Manufacturer.  So please clarify what dosage you are giving.  Double the dosage for a woman would be 5% and done only under a doctors supervision.

Next, you state: "Our clinics legally require no medical supervision by Arizona state law because
the cold laser treatment is cosmetic and completely safe.  That location has a full MD Medical Director to hold a higher standard and due to their use of other medical treatments."

In one paragraph you quote that "Doctors will prescribe" dosages over the recommended limit, then contradict yourself in stating that no medical supervision is required.  Which is it?

I do believe I clearly identified the fact that there is now a doctor on staff previously - and listed his credentials.  His background was also clearly defined as well as his specialties - none of which cover hair loss.

He is also a practicing physician in his field according to the AZ state Board of Licensing, so he is only seen "by appointment".  A dermatologist is best suited to know the conditions of the skin and the scalp - it is his specialty - not an Ob-Gyn or hypnotherapist!  And no, a dermatologist does not specialize in hair loss alone, but is best suited to know why it happens.  That is why almost all of those on staff at other well known hair loss institutes are all board certified dermatologists.

The fact is, that there was never any doctor on the premises when the treatments started - contrary to the documentation you require the clients to sign.  Exactly WHEN did this MD come on board there?  Had a doctor been on staff then the treatments would have stopped immediately when there was an allergic reaction and never been restarted in accordance with the FDA required documentation.

It is not a matter of  being provided the "wrong" documentation, as indicated, it is a matter of never being given the "right" documentation to make an informed decision - all of it - complete as mandated by both the FDA and the Manufacturer.  Had it been, this discussion would not be happening right now!

If, as you indicate, you have seen the file - then you have seen the complaint - all of which is clearly defined and documented.  Look forward to your response.  No one is questioning the service you provide William - only the manner in which this clinic chose to do it.  And what was written is well defined and accurate.

I am sorry that you feel the way you do, but what you have written here is mostly incorrect.

#8REBUTTAL Owner of company

Hello Gr8dane,

The clinic you are referring to in North Scottsdale is an affiliate and is separately owned and operated. I am currently looking into your file to see exactly what paperwork you signed and exactly what happened in your case.

In the interim, I will address your claims regarding the minoxidil product, the doctor, and state and federal laws:

First of all, a physician is not required dispense Over-the-Counter pharmaceuticals. You can purchase 5% Rogaine at Costco and major supermarkets without approval from a physician. This is legal because the FDA considers the product to be generally safe and poses no serious risk factors to users. Our product falls in the exact same category.

The Drug Facts are printed on the back of our proprietary minoxidil formulas are 100% compliant with FDA OTC drug labeling laws. The label is on file with the FDA.  All of the warnings about the product are clearly stated on the back of the bottle. It says
Stop use and ask doctor if:
Chest pain, rapid heart beat, faintness or dizziness occurs
    Sudden, unexplained weight gain occur
    Scalp irritation or redness occur
This statement among other precautions is on every bottle as required by state and federal law.

To address your claim about the female dosage of Minoxidil, our formulas are recommended to be used only once a day. This is also stated on every bottle. Rogaine with 5% minoxidil used twice daily can produce side effects of increased facial hair in women. With use of 5% Minoxidil only once daily, it drastically reduces the potential for that side effect. Additionally you can see on WebMd and the American Hair Loss Association websites that doctors will prescribe double our dose of Minoxidil  to women because it provides better results than 2% alone. Again that is double the dose that we use.

You say there is no doctor on staff. Yet there is actually. The state registered Medical Director of the North Scottsdale affiliate is Board Certified Ob-Gyn and hypnotherapist. He is also an MD, Medical Doctor. Our clinics legally require no medical supervision by Arizona state law because the cold laser treatment is cosmetic and completely safe.  That location has a full MD Medical Director to hold a higher standard and due to their use of other medical treatments.

Regarding your issue that he is not a dermatologist; most dermatologists have little to no training in treating hair loss. They will usually recommend Rogaine to women and Propecia to men. If a dermatologist could remedy hair loss, there would be no reason for other hair loss clinics to exist.

I am sorry that you feel the way you do, but what you have written here is mostly incorrect. The North Scottsdale affiliate is 100% in compliance with the things that I have stated above. If you were provided with the wrong documentation, I will find that out in the coming week and appropriate action will be taken.

I again strive to have everyone who enters my clinic in Tempe or our affiliates to have a positive experience. I would still encourage you to email or call me and let me know what happened. I have been in business for 11 years and I want to help each person uses our product and treatment. That is why I started this business, because of my own hair loss experience. I will be looking into everything next week and reaching out to you if needed.

You do not have a clue

#9Consumer Comment

Fri, February 01, 2013

William,

For the "owner" of this company, YOU apparently do not have a clue of what your clinics do and do not do!  That being said, I do not live in TX - I do however live in AZ - where you have 2 clinics.

What you claim, and what actually goes on there are two distinct and different things.  Neither of which you state as happening or supposed to be happening.

Your clinic in AZ does NOT disclose information to its clients up front.  They do NOT provide Consumer Safety Sheets about the product you use to its clients, and they do not follow state and federal laws.

They also do NOT follow either the FDA or the Manufacturers recommendations concerning the strength of Rogaine (5%) given to women - some under the age of 18.  All of which is done without a doctors supervision as required by law.

The Doctor the clinic claims to be on staff is a board certified Ob-Gyn and a hypnotherapist - NOT a dermatologist - and he sees patients only on request.  Great choice for a doctor who sees hair in the wrong places by the way.

Contrary to what you also state, your clinic did not and does not follow what you claim.  They did not and do not provide the required documentation and yes, they do make you sign a sheet stating that you have read the "fine print" but cleverly do not provide you the information required to make an informed decision.

Perhaps if you spent some time at your clinics you would find these issues yourself - or better yet send in a person under cover to investigate on your own.  Either way, you do not appear to have a clue of what is being done and what is not being followed as "your" requirements.

How can you or your clinic justify signing a document stating you have to see a doctor when in reality you do not have one on staff at that facility to see?

And, as stated, he is not even qualified or experienced in the field.  Quite the contradiction don't you think?  The paperwork supplied does NOT include a complete manufacturers Consumer Safety Sheet detailing ALL the side effects of Minoxidil and the precautions.  So tell me how can any client make an informed decision?

Your clinic also does NOT follow protocol when an allergic reaction is experienced from the rogaine formulation - rather he (Erik) has the client quit using the product until the problem calms down then puts them back on it again - against FDA and Manufacturers direction, and without a doctors supervision.

Perhaps you should check with the your clinic and see if he has had any complaints issued against him and you.  Find out how many and by whom and go from there!  We'll see if you do have a handle on what is happening then and what is going on!  If you do, then YOU will know who to talk to.

You say you are in Houston, but we do not have a clinic there.

#10REBUTTAL Owner of company

Fri, February 01, 2013

Hello Gr8dane,

Which clinic did you go to? Who did you deal with? You say you are in Houston, but we do not have a clinic there.

To address your comments, there is a 4 page disclosure document that every client must read and sign before we take payment for a clinical treatment. We will not start services unless this document is reviewed and signed because every person is required by law to understand the risks and rewards of our clinical protocol. All pharmaceutical ingredients are explained in this document as well as every ingredient is listed on the side of every bottle. All FDA standards and GMP guidelines have been met or exceeded by our products. Additionally, most ingredients are listed on our website. We are proud of our ingredients because I make sure that every product is as natural and petroleum based chemical free as possible.

We also take meticulous care to ensure every client is aware that they will have to continue some portion of the program to maintain their hair. This is the same with other mainstream products such as Minoxidil and Propecia, ongoing use is required. This is very much like brushing your teeth. If you stop brushing them, they will most likely rot and fall out.

Currently there is no cure for hair loss. Due to the many reasons for hair loss, we are still probably far off from a cure. However, there are many treatments available.

On a personal note, I want every experience in our clinics to be a good one. Please email me at [email protected] or call my office at 480-222-4247 and let me know what has happened. All affiliate clinics are required to maintain our standard of service to be able to use the Evolution name. I want to know, if you had a bad experience, what clinic is responsible and who you deal with. If a clinic is not following protocol, they will be stripped of our name. Its that simple.

What you have explained here is not policy and standards are in place to ensure every client knows that ongoing product usage is required. I again stress to you, please contact me personally. I will do everything possible to get to the bottom of this, I just need to know happened.

omission of key material facts

#11Consumer Comment

While you claim to be unassociated with Evolution Hair Centers, you sound so much like an advertisement for them!  For that matter, who cares what YOUR credentials may or may not be.

What you state about the products inability to maintain hair is also correct.

However, how would one come to know that if it is never disclosed to the client?
How can one research information not provided when you go to these clinics?

So before you shake your finger at the person or persons writing these rebuttals, you might have wanted to consider the possibility (fact actually) that perhaps they were unable to research these things because it was hidden from them deliberately by the clinical staff.

You give a great explanation about the phases of hair loss, yet the clinic does not tell you about the ingredients until well after you sign up - then it is in the manner of "oh by the way".

Wouldn't you agree that ALL information about the clinic, its supplements, its ingredients and its treatment should be disclosed up front?

Clearly if you do not use their minoxidil formulations then their laser treatment is worthless - not worth the electricity it takes to turn it on.

Shouldn't a client have the right to know everything about the program without reservation by the clinic operators?

Shouldn't the clinic have to follow ALL the FDA and Manufacturers consumer safety guidelines and not pick and choose those that sell their product and services?

Shouldn't they be held to the same rules and regulations that a certified medical facility is when dispencing OTC drugs?

Deceit is just that - deceit!  A lie is a lie no matter how you choose to twist it.

So again, before YOU choose to point fingers and/or condemn someone - know your facts and/or consider all the possibilities - otherwise keep out of that which you have little or no knowledge of.

Committment does not enter into the picture when any service is sold on the basis of a lie!  One can committ to following a program and most do until the truth comes out and then they are left with the devastation the clinic has caused emotionally and mentally to the client because they deliberately chose to hide the facts about what they sell.

In the future, please remember it is best to first analyze your problem and search for a logical solution before you log a complaint.  While it is a shame that customer service seemed to be nonexistent once you no longer wanted to continue treatment, the problems that ensued after termination of treatment are likely due to your noncompliance.  Yes, the main ingredient in the topical solution is the same as Rogaine; however, it is preferrable because it does not dry out your scalp as much due to unneccessary additives (therefore the hair maintained is less dried out).  If you had done your research, you would know that Minoxidil (the main ingredient in Rogaine) DOES NOT REGROW HAIR; it just extends the active growing phase of each hair so that you have more hair on your head longer.  This means that when one ceases to apply this treatment, those hairs that were hanging on in the anagen (active) phase past their normal cycle will likely enter the telogen (resting, or fallout) phase all at once; rather than at different times as they would have if one was not using Minoxidil.  Simply put, all hair is usually on a different growing cycles so that even during normal hairloss, one never really goes bald.  When you use Minoxidil to force the majority of hair to stay in the same cycle, it is inevitable that it will also fall out in the same cycle when the topical application is no longer being followed.  Eventually, the hair will get back into different cycles again and the hairloss won't seem SO bad (but you will still be suffering from your previous condition of overall alopecia).

I do not work for this company, but did teach Trichology in a well known beauty institute for awhile.  I am also a continuing customer.  I have gone through the regrowing phase several times because, yes, sometimes it is hard to be able to afford the continuing treatment.  There is a particular reason for each step.  I could get into specifics about exactly how androgenetic alopecia takes course, but I suspect you wouldn't want to know because it would confirm that the commitment that was explained to you when you signed up truly is effective, and well thought out, but only if you accept that anything less than 100% compliant will leave you wasting your money and time.  Also, perhaps the reality that this system does not cure hairloss, but only stave it off is probably disheartening, but nonetheless a fact.  So while you point fingers rather than accept that it was a commitment you understandably didn't want to commit to the rest of your life, I will be enjoying my labor intensive, but wig-free head :)

I was also a consumer. The staff treated me very well as a client until I asked for my money back. At that point, all customer service skills went out the window. I spent thousands of dollars on a product that didn't work. The only problem is that I lost significant amounts of hair after the in-clinic sessions were completed even though I still followed the after clinic instructions faithfully. Be very careful when deciding if this is the right solution for you.

I find this post comical considering that to-date, I have personally helped over 4000 people regrow their hair. After being in business since 2002, Evolution Hair Centers has maintained a Better Business Bureau rating of A+ (not an easy task I assure you), honored over 82 refunds, and have more before and after pictures than other laser hair therapy company verifying our success. People fly in from across the country to come to our clinics on weekly basis. I personally perform phone consultations for almost 100 overseas clients and visit our celebrity clients quarterly. Evolution clinics perform ongoing clinical studies in our clinics producing new and more effective hair growth treatment protocols that continue to enhance our clients treatment process. Our program consists of the most advanced proprietary laser, topical, nutritional, and detoxification methods available to regrow as much hair naturally as possible on every individual. Despite these things this person has posted this anonymously. If this person was truly a client, why would they not post their name so that the company could address this issue?
