I knew going in that the "Free Credit Report" would not be free. They got me once before when I ordered a report for my daughter. I don't expect it to be free. I planned to cancel after one month. But that was not so easy to do.
It's very easy to get a membership on this site. only takes a minute or two. But just try to cancel and see what happens. Not much. They have designed it to keep you locked in, so they can continue to take money out of your bank account. Although you can join online, you cannot cancel online. Unlike most membership sites, which can be cancelled in minutes online or on the phone, this site makes it almost impossible. Calls don't go through most of the time. When you do get through, you might be on hold for 20-30 minutes. Today it was almost 24 minutes. If you have a life and work for a living, you might have to put it off to try again later and then get charged again as I was.
The whole time you are on hold, you must listen to endless messages trying to upsell you to an even more expensive level of membership. These three excruciating messages play again and again. Not sure if they are actually trying to upsell you or drive you mad so you will hang up,
Instead of selling their services on their merits, they're selling them by tricking consumers into buying them. Another case of "gotcha capitalism".
