Experian FreeCreditReport.com Experian scam, free credit report is not free Internet
I went to freecreditreport.com to get my "free" credit report. It required a credit card number and like a fool, I gave it to them. It said that it needed it if I wanted to opt to have it mailed to me (?). I noticed that at the beginning of January 2012 that I was charged $16.95. I didn't recognize the charge and assumed it was Netflix.
I saw the charge again today. I knew it wasn't Netflix because I had cancelled my account. My bank told me what the charge was and said I needed to look into it because it was strange I was charged two times in one month.
The first number I called asked asinine questions and as many times as I pressed 0 and *, it would not let me talk to a person. The second number I called, I spoke with a lady who explained to me that I signed up for the membership on December 23, 2011. My seven day trial ended on December 30, 2011. The first $16.95 that was drafted from my account was FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER!! I had to get her to clarify that. I paid for an entire month's subscription fee (for a membership that I never wanted in the first place) for December 30 and 31st. The representative did not seem to see a problem with that.
I won't blame Experian for my idiocy in not reading the fine print. I DO blame them for hiding behind their terms and conditions; that just because they have it written down on paper means that it is okay for them to basically trick people into a subscription by telling them to get a "free credit report."
I promised them that I would report them to everyone I could.
