My loan was with equacredit morgage company and this company was bought out by Fairbanks. I have had nothing but truoble with them since. They are consistantly putting late charges on my account saying they did not recieve my payment on time . I started sending it with a tracer number on it so I know when they recieve it,this seems to have stopped this problem. I had a problem with the insurence they imposed on my account also. I had insurence and had the policy sent by fax to them three times ,but they say they did not recieve it. I hate to call them to try to correct problems because it takes for ever and many calls to get thing straightened out. I have two loans with them and I sent my payments in and they reversed the payments. Paying one ahead for several months and the other loan was then not covered for one month it took three months and untold amounts of calls to correct this. It was reported to the credit bureau that I was behind on my payments and I was billed many late charges. What a mess!! and I thought I was the only one. I was so glad to find this web site!

God! I just read your hair-raising story on your mortgage, and I wish you all the luck in the world. I recently had a horrible experience with another predatory lender in FLorida, World Savings Bank. I have complaints in process with the Florida Commission on Human Rights, the Office of Thrift Supervision and HUD. I never consumated the crappy loan, so our circumstances might be different. The Office of Thrift Supervision has been the best for my case so far. Depending on who regulates your crappy mortgage lender, you might want to contact them also. The more the merrier! The regulators have the power to yank their regulatory charters, impose fines, and limit their growth in a given market. If enough consumers complain about the same sorts of things, the fines go up in geometric proportions. If criminal activity is found, the Department of Justice will get involved and litigate, no cost to the consumer. I really wonder if Florida has some gaping holes in their lending regulations. Or, banks down here must think consumers have the IQ's of bricks or something--there seem to be a lot of horror stories coming out of this state. Good luck to you on your case, and thanks for posting!

Your suggestion to email 20/20 and Dateline on the same date is a good idea. Fairbanks is a predatory lender. This should be noted in the email, so everybodys' story is alike. It will get more attention. The FTC and State Attorney Generals are well aware of predatory lenders and Fairbanks is on top of the list. Predatory lending is common practice and the FTC has a list of what it describes as predatory lending practices. Some news attention has been given to predatory lending, so PREDATORY LENDING should be included in the email caption to give the mail a common cause. Good Luck and God Bless America

I have already e-mailed: Dateline, 20/20, Primetime, The Attorney General (Ohio), local news stations (Ohio), Oprah and wrote a letter to the Editor of Good Housekeeping Magazine. I think that is a great idea for everyone to do it on the same day, and I will AGAIN e-mail them on Sunday. I am still in disbelieve that Fairbanks can keep getting away with all this bull----. I hope all of us TOGETHER can make a difference. I also am in contact with a lawyer in S.C. and trying to find a lawyer in Ohio to take on Fairbanks. They must be STOPPED! Keep me posted :-)
