I recently refinanced, horray!!. The past seven years with ContiMortgage/Fairbanks was horrible. First of all, Fairbanks did not respond to the payoff request which was sent three times by my new lender. On the day of settlement(March 10, 2003,the new lender called me and asked if I could get in touch with Fairbanks and see if I could have them fax it on that day. I had to send a request by fax and they said it would take at least 24 hours.(this was requested 3 weeks before today). I finally called and spoke with a supervisor at Fairbanks and she said she would have it faxed immediately. She did. But now I get a call from the new lender, the payoff is $4,000 more than my principal balance (which I got off a statement dated March 5, 2003). I called Fairbanks for an explanation and they said the difference was $162.00 in unpaid late fees, $10.00 payment request fax fees, $20.00 processing fees (what ever this is) and $3,599.00 in interest. I called back for an explanation of why so high and was told that is 30 days at $58.22 per day, (but that only totals a little over $1700) but she said well, that is what the true payoff is. I know this is not correct and that they are doubling what I actually owe. I am glad I don't have to deal with them any longer for my mortgage, but I will get to the bottom of why I had to include an extra $4,000 in my new loan of 30 more years)
