Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My wife and I just got home from attending a sales presentation in Destin, Florida offered by Fairfield Resorts. Because I am an avid reader of Ripoffreport.com, I knew in advance I was not going to purchase anything. If they want to offer us a vacation for 39 dollars and a 50 dollar dinner, then ok, we will listen to your sales pitch.

Anyway, after listening to the presentation and the sales pitch and going on the tour I was pretty obvious to the sales person that I as not going to purchase.

Then, this sales person named CHRIS KEMP dropped to a new low and made the comment, speaking of my wife "Well, if you don't take her on vacation, someone else will." OH MY GOODNESS, my heart started pounding in my chest and I was VERY close to cussing this person out, right in the parking lot.

How dare he!! My wife knew I was really ticked off. She insisted I remain outside the building and cool off before we went back in. We went back in and I of course, even moreso now, stuck to my guns and said, no, no, no, no, no to all of their offers. We left without buying anything and still got our 50 dollar dinner certificate.

As we were about to get in the truck and leave, I told my wife. "I am so tempted to go speak to a manager about him", and she said "go ahead".

I went inside to the reception desk and asked for a manager, telling them it was in regards to a VERY unprofessional comment made by their sales person. The receptionists looked shocked. I then was led to an office where I was met by "David". I told him of the comment and I thought he was going to hit the floor. He appeared to be in total amazement that someone would say that.

He agreed the comment was VERY out of line and furthermore stated he would see that such comments are not made again. He told me this was worthy of an apology letter and took my information to send it to me.

I understand high pressure sales pitches, and I was prepared for them so they did not bother me, but such comments as this are totally rude, crude and grossly unprofessional.

As much as I'd hate to admit, I did sell timeshare at one point in my life (over 10 years ago). Not in Destin, but in Orlando. The comment made to you is a known comment in the industry. Just part of the sales tactics, it is usually used when the hubby is not receptive to the tour. Let's look at it from another perspective. Wife is Oohing and Aahing over the unit and the hubby is saying no way. Basically the salespeople are taught that means the hubby would rather his wife and family vacation in a nasty hotel rather than a beautiful condo. Doesn't really say much for the hubby, does it? So, then the salesperson gets snippy with the hubby. So, a nasty remark is thrown in. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. What does the salesperson have to lose? If the salesperson has a good sales record, he won't lose his job, no matter what he says to you. If he has a bad sales record, he's probably going to lose his job anyway. Timeshare salespeople only get paid when they sell. They work for free when they don't. I have seen salespeople who are on the bubble and need the sale to keep their jobs get very stressed and get attitudes. Don't let the statement get to you. It probably wasn't personal, just a last ditch effort to either get you to buy, or a last ditch effort to stick it to you because the salesperson didn't like you. By the way, the best way avoid salesperson confrontation is to stick with the fact that you cannot afford it, or you don't know what it going to happen with your job, or you don't really want to part with your money, etc. You have taken your wife on one last vacation before the "roof caves in" because you wanted to do something special for her. I've had tours actually say to me that they have the money, but would really rather stay in a hotel on their vacations. How moronic is that?

They offered "FREE", I got it. Did I waste their time, I dunno, probably. If they dont want me to come to their offers knowing I am not going to buy anything, then they shouldnt invite me. Its a chance they take. Anyway, this is a long time past, its over with, I just know that I have called the "reservation department" everytime I get one of these offers and tell them to take me off their lists.

Timeshare salesmen are truly the lowest of the low on the sales totem pole, the job they do is nasty and seldom profitable, used car salesmen look like boy scouts compared to them. Having said that... do you realize how far you have to go to make them the sympathetic figure in any story, you admittedly wasted the guys time for something free than demaded more free when he insulted you, then insulted him for writing you an apology note....stay home next time, nobody needs or wants you as a customer for anything. You are the type person that makes any tourist hated by the locals, and you got exactly what you deserved and paid for, even more frankly, I wouldn't have been anywhere nearly as nice to you or your wife.

David, You had my sympathy, untill you complained that you did not recieve another free trip. UNICEF is UNICEF. Any other business is not. Businesses are out to make a profit. That is how capitalism works. They are not in the busness of giving away free stuff. They are in the business of selling vacations. Furthermore, the manager you spoke with, went as far as to make the salesman write a personal letter to you, rather than send you the automated generic response, you would expect from a large corporation. Finally, I find it humorous that you would question another mans sexuality. Some guy basically tells you your wife is a gold digging w***e, right in front of both of you, and you are "so upset you spoke with a manager"? I pride myself on carrying myself with a decent amount of class. But, there is a line you do not cross, and the slaesman would have been pulling his teeth out of my knuckles, had he said that to me. Pull your skirt up buddy. And stop looking for a free ride.

David; As a fellow Alabaman, I am appalled that you would rebut a comment by referring to his "gay boyfriend." This perpetuates the image of southerners as racist, homophobes. I was on your side in this issue until you undermined your valid case with redneck sensibility!

Ok, so I am not the most well spoken person, but I never claimed to be. I still am more competent in writing apology letters than this guy was. You comment "give it up and do something good for someone instead", shows you know me about as well as your gay boyfriend does, neither of you do. I spend more time helping people than I do posting nasty comments on this website when someone has a problem, which seems to be your favorite pasttime. If you can't help the problem, you are a problem... seems you are a problem. Again, thanks for the kind words, may the bird of paradise fly up your nose.

David says, "It was written by the salesman Chris Kemp and sounded as if it was written by an 8 year old." Well, you, yourself, sound so cultured you must have attended an Ivy League college. You wanted something for nothing. You got it. You wanted an apology. You got it. Now you want even more for nothing. I hope you don't get it. You're trying to make yourself sound as if you have much higher morals than these guys but you're only making yourself sound even sleazier. Give it up and do something good for someone instead. You'll feel much better for it.

FAIRFIELD FINALLY RESPONDED

I finally got my apology letter, and what a bunch of crap!!! It was written on a yellow legal pad peice of paper, NOT even company letterhead. It was written by the salesman Chris Kemp and sounded as if it was written by an 8 year old. With an annotation from the senior sales person also apologizing. A company with this many suckers...oops, I mean members... could certainly afford letterhead I think. I know I was expecting too much, but I really thought a free weekend might have been included in this apology, but hey, even members can't seem to book vacations, so why should we be able to?? I highly recommend everyone steer FAR away from this company, just from my experience and the experiences I have seen on this site. If you're just wanting to throw your money away, throw it towards me... and I will be much more nice.
