I found A&J Home contractors through service magic, a website dedicated to helping you find contractors. Before signing a contract with A&J I looked on the internet for any information on the company and also called a few references that were provided to me by Joe Janas. Since it appeared the contractor had no poor history, I decided to sign a contract with Rosann Janas the president of the company and her husband Joe Janas. After signing contract with them, Joe came to my house with blueprints that were not even discussed with me from an architect, and began to dig the hole for my addition that Saturday and poured the footing. After that, they put the bluestone in and poured the slab. Only one problem he did not call the township for a slab compaction inspection, or even to pour the slab so it was done with no permit. Then he went ahead and put up the framing which he did not follow the plans for the lag bolts and used the wrong TGIs, then he put the roof on the wrong way, he didnt use a microlam beam or a paralam beam, instead he used 2 x 10s.Rosann and Joes crew had 112 blown nails, that means they did not hit the studs after nailing through the sheathing what CONTRACTOR does that??? He also put up the sheathing and received a violation for not following the UCC code (two times), he failed inspection both times. For their poor workmanship A&J received a violation from the township. A&J home Contractors did not follow the ridgeline for my existing roof. Another instance where I had an issue is when the inspector questioned who removed the Asbestos underneath the siding, I told him the contractor did. My house is 30 years old it has vinyl siding over the asbestos that I was unaware of. A&J did not have an Asbestos license, which is a whole different license, than a contractors license. The is another example of work he did that later caused a violation from the town. Joe Janas, promises that his men will show, and they never do. During the course of the entire contract they never showed when they said they would, and never call to even let you now they are no coming.Joe would make up excuses like I had to take my son to the city, my father in law is in the hospital, his work crew is on another job, his has a colon problem and it is acting up, This became a pattern that got worse and worse as the job progressed and ultimately the homeowner is left with a big mess!!! Rosann Janas, Joe Janas, A&J Home Contractors had $6200.00 in township fines. Both Joe and Rosann ( A&J Home Contractors )have a blatant disregard for the uniform construction code, the residential building code, and the plans and specifications. A&J also received fines for not following the Architects plans and changing the plans without permission from the architect. After I approached Joe Janas about this situation, and questioned him on how the roof went on wrong, he told me he had retained a Lawyer and he does not want the job any more. Meanwhile I have lost at least $16, 500.00, plus violations to the township, and he breeched contract. I am sure the numbers higher if you add up all the money I had to spend to fix his work. If you are thinking about using this contractor, and want to find out more about the owners you can look up Father and Son Handyman, Joseph R Janas Jr, Rosann Janas, Rosalie Janas, Joseph F Janas, Joseph J Janas and Joseph Francis Janas. I would also suggest you look up A&J contractors as he goes by that name sometime as well. One thing is for sure, I would not recommend this contractor to anyone.
