I contacted FEDEX with regard to sending a birthday present to my daughter in Thailand, I was cajoled in to opening a account with them as they said this would give me a better rate for the postage of the item,so i did.

I was quoted a price of 37.50 for this service and assured that the package would arrive well in time for my daughters birthday.

The package was not delivered when it should have been, being over a week late. I contacted FedEx regarding this late delivery and was told that there would be no charge, as they had failed to live up to there initial quote.

I then found that they had taken the sum of 85.34 from my credit card? I have written to them regarding this matter and to date have not received any of my money back.

I am now considering County Court action against this RIP OFF COMPANY;

 MY ADVISE TO ANY AND ALL PERSONS CONSIDERING USEING FEDEX TO STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS RIP OFF COMPANY, AND DO NOT UNDER ANY CERCUMSTANCE REGISTER AN ACCOUNT OR CREDIT CARD WITH THEM UNLESS YOU WISH TO BE RIPPED OFF BIG TIME!

Your report does not appear to reflect the same as the letter describes.

Firstly, the letter states that the reason for the delay was due to being held by customs. No carrier can be responsible for delays of this nature as they do not have the power to overide or ignore government agencies. The shipment (according to the letter evidence) was delivered the day following release from customs.

Secondly, your report implies that Fedex would not charge you as they, and I quote - "had failed to live up to there initial quote" . The letter states it was a gesture of goodwill.

Thirdly, Fedex did not state that there would be no charge. They stated there would be no charge for transportation. As a carrier, they are not responsible for duties and taxes applied to shipments. It is very possible that the 85.34 you were charged is purely a duty and/or tax charge and not the transportation charges.

Local customs typically detain shipments if there is something unclear, suspect or information is missing. Possibly a decalred value that does not match the description of the goods or unclear description. Even if everything is fully in order, they still have the right to detain any shipment. Furthermore, as duties and taxes were payable, the shipment cannot be released until paid. Where a shipper has not indicated they wish to be charged duties or taxes, the carrier will attempt to contact the consignee for payment. Did Fedex attempt to contact your daughter - and if so when.

You complaint appears to be based more on a mis understanding of international shipping than any failure of the shipping company.

Is there a reason critical details are missing?

You were given a quote? Who gave them the specifications for the quote. Perhaps your dimensions were rounded down and/or your 'bathroom scale' did not provide the accurate weight. These errors are extremely common. At times, people even do it on purpose as they think they're pulling a fast one for a cheated discount. It doesn't work.

What was the source of the delay? There are many issues outside of Fedex control that no carrier can be responsible for. If the item was delayed in customs (which is very common), you obvioulsy can blame Fedex.

No one should alter their choice to use Fedex or UPS because of one insignificant ridiculous and incomplete complaint like this.

You haven't given all the facts.
