First American Home Buyers Protection Refrigerator Heating up Owners and Food! ripoff Van Nuys California
when we bought our home, one condition was that the seller purchase us a home warranty since the orginal appliances were staying. things went well until about 6 months in to it. The week after Christmas our fridge wasn't cooling and a [pool of water was at the bottom. We had just purchased about $300 worth of food! We stocked up on ice and saved what we could in three large coolers while I called the 24 hours a day service number.
Since it was holiday (New Years) they told us it would take a week to get someone out! At that time they did not even offer a mini-fridge or a rental. We suffered through somehow- losing most of the food we purchased, eating out for every meal (another $200 lost), and thinking surely we would be getting a new fridge. Finally the repairman came and said the heating element and the timer had gone out and it would take another week to get the parts.
A week later he comes out, changes out the part and claims that all is well, but if he had to return he would write it up as non-repairable. One month later, we had the same problem- food that is luke warm and a puddle of water. They offer to send the same tech, he comes out and finds that the fridge is non-repairable and reports to the warranty people, but no action is taken.
Once again,a few weeks later the fridge quits working. I politely requested someone new. Still no offer of a rental or mini-fridge. When the new guy came out (4 days later) he said that the prior service tech had not connected the heating element or timer up correctly. NOW the problem was fixed.
One month later- same problem. I am irate at this point! Demanding a new fridge- finally they offer a mini-fridge or a rental to calm me down- they say they will send one more repairmen to "see what the problem is" - I know what it is- the fridge is like a mini-oven with a lake at the bottom for our enjoyment!
When this repairmen comes out he says there is no way to fix our fridge, that it is a fault in the design. When I call to speak to the customer service people about getting a new fridge they claim that the service man made no such report to them! So now I am out $300 in service fees, at least $400 in groceries, who knows how much in eating out, and most of all my sanity.
Funny, but after all this they tried to get us to renew!
