I had this credit card for two years, we got it when our credit was sub-par, I have always paid it on time and to thank me they give you a credit increase BUT charge you another $100.00 for a $300.00 increase. They also charge you to pay your bill. $10.95 a month, $9.95 monthly maintenance fee, 29% APR, and $89.99 a year user fee. To sum it up...if you don't use the credit card at all it's still going to cost you over $30.00 a month for it to sit in your wallet. Eventually if it's your first credit card they have trapped you into keeping it to upkeep your credit score history. What can I do to get the fees back? Please help!

You are not stuck with the credit card. All you have to do is cancel the card. But before you do, make sure you are paid up to date. Once you cancel the card the credit history will remain on your credit report for up to ten years which should be very helpful to you.

Those type of cards are rebuilding type cards and meant to be used for the short term to show that you can use credit responsibly. Once you have established that fact through responsible payment history you can get other more prime credit cards and close the sub-prime card.

You most definitely do not have to keep the card open to benefit from your good payment history. Look up some of the more reputable credit score information sites to get a better explanation.

What can I do to get the fees back?

- Absolutly NOTHING.  YOU agreed to these fees when you got the card.   You can't all of the sudden come back later and say that they are "unfair".  Was it unfair when they were the only company who would give you credit a couple of years ago...of course not.  It only became unfair when it was no longer to your advantage, where you default(no pun intended) back to the "sub-prime" attitude that caused you to go to them in the first place.

If you have had this card for a couple of years and can get a better credit card, you are STUPID for continuing with this card.  Once you have the better card close this one.  Yes your "history" will be reduced but that is relativly short lived and the money you are saving can be put to better use.

When YOU agreed to get and use the card, YOU agreed to the fees, terms and conditions.  In fact, even before you received the card, you were given a disclosure sheet or it was listed on the web page.  Its done this way for each and every credit card.  The time to complain about these fees is NEVER!  When you consider their offer you READ the disclosure sheet.  If the fees, APR and other T/C's are not to your liking, then very simply, you don't get the card!
