On Sunday, I made a purchase with my debit Mastercard for $161. There was $173 in my account so this should not have been a problem. I check my account online on a daily basis and the purchase was pending and there was an available balance of $12 in my account for a couple of days. When I checked my account on Wednesday, a debit that I had forgotten about came through for $28. I know that this one should not have cleared and I have absolutely no problem with paying the $33 overdraft fee for it.

However, First Convenience bank decided that they should add them together and that the total amount would be more than I had so they charged me two overdraft fees.

The next day, Thursday, the first amount cleared so they charged me another overdraft fee. I went to the bank and explained my problem to the manager. I have had this problem with them before and they explained everything to me, got me thoroughly confused, I said "okay" and left. This time I made printouts of each time they charged an overdraft. When I went in they tried to tell me that it is just the way the computer does it and that they would be nice and do me a courtesy by refunding one of the fees. She also said that she would get with the other manager and see about removing the other fee.

This morning the $28 went through so they charged me ANOTHER $33 overdraft fee.

In total they have charged me $132 in overdraft fees for one debit of $28 that would not have cleared! They did refund one of the fees but they continue to say that it was not a bank error.

I really do not believe that it is legal for them to charge these fees but I do not know how to prove it. I have been a customer with them for a long time but I will be changing banks by the end of the month!
