I have had a card with First Premier for over 3 years now with no problems other than the excessive fees- enrollment, annual, participation, internet usage, online payment processing, etc.

However, I received a statement in the mail a few weeks ago for another First Premier Card. It showed a balance of nearly $200 AND a late fee! I called First Premier and informed them that I had never activated or used a card with that number. He said the card was activated when it was mailed out. I told him I did not want the card, did not know if I had even received the card, and I wanted it closed immediately. He argued with me for a while and would never agree to close it.

He finally said they could close that card, issue me a new card and take off the balance and leave me with a small enrollment fee. I agreed and received the new card in the mail a couple of weeks later. I also received a letter from First Premier confirming the credit they issued from the other account.

I recently made a couple of purchases with that card, but I have not received a statement. Today I got a call at work from First Premier saying that my account was past due, and I needed to arrange a withdrawal from my checking account to get it in good standing. The balance was over $300 dollars. I told him about the prior conversation I had where I was told the other account was closed, and the balance was removed. I also told him I had not received a statement on this new card yet.

He kept pushing for me to make a payment, and I told him I would make a payment on the new card when I received a statement for it. I am now concerned that the other account has been posted on my credit report as past due, even though the person I spoke with assured me that nothing would be done with that account once I agreed to the new one.

Lucky for me, I recently passed the bar exam and will be pursuing legal action against this company if necessary.
