Flash Cab Company Cab Ride Rip-Off Chicago, Illinois
I arranged for Flash Cab company to take me the six blocks from my apartment to work. The cab fare was $5.00, and I gave the driver a $2.00 tip (which I now certainly regret).
I paid with my debit card, and checked out my bank statement the next day. I saw that instead of being charged $7.00 for the cab ride, I was charged $52.00.
I called the office and was told I had to call back during business hours and ask for billing. After attempting multiple times over the next week, I've yet to hear back from them, or actually speak to a real person. The billing department is simply an answering machine that picks up after two rings.
Although the amount I was overcharged is small, I feel that this could potentially be something that cab drivers are doing - not everyone compulsively checks their bank statements daily, and slight overcharges could go unseen pretty easily. It's also quite frustrating that nobody has attempted to get back to me in regards to this matter.
