There are several major issues with Flat Rate Movers LLC (www.flatratemoversllc.com)

1.  No insurance or license.  They have had their insurance coverage lapse and their government moving license revoked several times since 2009.  I would try to use moving companies that have insurance and an operating license.  You can look up their information by entering DOT number 2113008 into the government regulator website

In fact, looking them up today (11-3-2011) shows them as being "out of service" on the government regulator website.  Maybe their license was revoked again?

2.  No credit card.  Their website shows the logos of American Express, VISA, and MasterCard, and they ask for your credit card number to put it on their file, but you must pay by cash or cashier's check to the movers.  If you don't have $1500 or so in cash readily available, I guess you can't move.

3.  Do not use them if you operate on any sort of fixed schedule.  They do not honor pickup dates, nor do they tell you in a timely fashion that they will show up on a different date.  Obviously this can be a difficult situation, especially for someone like me who was scheduled to fly out of the city shortly after moving out.

Even worse, they don't tell you that the movers will show up the next day or at midnight until shortly before they are due to arrive, so you must proactively call them every few hours to check on the status of the truck.  Also, their company doesn't pick up the phone after a certain hour.  If you are complacent or you think that they're a normal moving company, don't be surprised when they never show up.

I filed a complaint with the Department of Transportation, but I won't bore you with the details.  Long story short, the movers missed the scheduled pickup date and arrived at 10 PM on a later day, about eight hours before I was due to fly out of the city.
