Several months ago I came across the book "lemon aid" in a library. I strongly recommended this book. I copied the article about the taurus, since my sister owns a 91 taurus. When she read it, her blood boiled! Her experience with a failed transmission (and coincidentally a $3000 repair, the same dollar amount as in the article!!!!!!) Ford is to blame here, they have penny-pinched the design of the tranny, using a aluminum thrust piston which is prone to cracking instead of a steel design. If you read the article, you just might conclude that the taurus is one of the worst cars ever built!!!!!!! Beware, you soon may be looking at a major engine repair. In the case of the article, one irate person had their letter printed in the book lemon aid. This person went through four engines and three trannys in only three years (as I recall)!!!!! I strongly recommended that everyone pick up a copy of Lemon Aid. It seems to be dead on the money, especially as far as the Taurus is concerned! It also accurately predicted the mechanical problems that my Honda had (all minor, thankfully)
