To clarify the FOP and phone solicitations -
Indeed, a portion of the work of the FOP National Lodge and some of the states or local lodges is labor related.
However, many state lodges and local lodges are not labor related, rather, focused on the fraternal parts of the order. Moreover, phone solicitation is generally in support of Shop With A Cop or similar program where local lodges use funds to buy Christmas for disadvantaged families.
Our lodge in Williamson County TN has two Shop with A Cop events, one for back to school, another for Christmas. In addition, we sponsor some youth sports and activities locally.
I hope this provides a bit of clarification.

Hey JeanClaudio. Only a scumbag like you calls another person a liar for reporting a scam. You sound like you are one of the telemarketers that Sid was talking about.

I find it really appauling that "Claudia" has to attack someone's character to defend her dead end job! This FOP is a scam.............period!
I used to own a business and I believe these parasites probably gained access to my personal information from advertising sources along with business that ask for personal information so they can sell it for a profit...................something that is criminal in nature and should be outlawed by our government!
These parasites call DO NOT CALL REGISTRY folks, day, night, middle of the night and they have no respect for your personal being.
I have no idea where the money goes but I would suspect from their business tactics it's probably illiceit! They have been around far more than 5 years as well. I owned my business back in the 80's when these relentless parasites annoyed me 24/7 with their begging for money etiquette!
I have several friends in various police departments including state, sheriff, and local whom have advised me they have no clue as to what, where, or how the money is distributed and if it even is distributed to police departments!
The country is full of con and scam artist as it has become the American way of getting rich off hard working Americans! I wouldn't put it past the Ultra Rich for one minute running a sham like this!
My advice, hang up on ALL solicitors!! If you want to donate to a real cause, contact that real cause directly and not through some smuck claiming to represent that particular organization!
Let these parasites get a real job and earn a paycheck instead of their illiceit shams they run!!!

The Fraternal Order of Police (Texas) telemarketing scheme has been around for some years. Maybe 5 years ago I took the "bite" after a tenacious marketer "shamed" me into donating $10 to the cause, allegedly supporting widows and children of Police Officers killed in the line of duty. I rarely contribute to any group represented by telemarketers, and have my telephone and mail address listed on all available "Do Not Call" lists.
Shortly after making my donation, I started receiving junk mail and dozens of telemarketers flooded me with telephone calls all day and even in the evenings. I answered some of the calls to see who they were, and asked each where they obtained my number, since I was listed on "Do Not Call" lists. I never got an answer, only the person calling saying they just had my number.
Tracking further from information on my donation receipt, I found that the solicitor was a Telemarketing Firm, allegedly hired by the FOP to solicit donations. DUH - no contact number for the Telemarketer. Without a doubt they are selling my telephone number and mailing address to other Telemarketers. I have answered several calls from the FOP, politely declining their prepared sales message, and requested to be placed on their "Do Not Call" list. Some just hang up, some say "OK", but the calls keep coming. As of this date, I have received 1-2 calls DAILY for the past several weeks.
This is a bogus solicitation! The following link is to a Texas website that watchdog's the Texas Criminal Justice system, and this link is specific to information about the Fraternal Order of Police (Texas) solicitations. A good read!

Let me be perfectly blunt here...shut up and get a life. Seriously, misrepresentation? Did you ASK if it was a union? NO! This was a telemarketer for the FOP. You really asked him if her was part of the police? Really? I think not. I think that you added this to your response just to add fuel to the fire.
Why do I think this? In my younger years I used to work for a telemarketing company that called people representing the FOP. If at any time anyone said they were a member of the police they would be fired.
This may have happened in your case....but I think not. I simply think you are lying. I wish this site can take off the ravings of someone who knows nothing which is you, but they don't so I'll rebutt.
