Fred Meyers Kroger Bait and Switch Seattle, Washington
The pharmacy sucks you in with reasonably priced generic drugs. You move your Rx to Fred's, and then when you want a refill, the drug is suddenly "unavailable."
Case in point, 3 months ago I moved my Rx for 100 mg. tabs of a very widely-prescribed blood pressure med to Freds. No problem--$10 for 3 months. Great!
Today I went to pick up my refill and it's suddenly $20. The pharmacist tells me 100 mg. tabs are now "unavailable," so she hands me 50 mg. tabs and tells me I'll now have to take two a day.
I questioned the price and I got a version of "not my problem." What was $10 3 months ago is now $20. "We can't sell the drug for less than we're paying for it!" I regretfully paid them for getting f*cked over because for me going without this drug is potentially life-threatening. NOTE THAT THIS IS THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF DRUG FOR TWICE THE PRICE.
I called another Seattle pharmacy (also a chain) and was told they have this drug in stock, and there is no problem with supply.
Vote with your feet. Switching pharmacies is free and easy. Take your empty bottle to any trusted pharmacy. They'll take it from there.
