I requested a free credit report after watching a televised commercial with Free Credit Report.com, and called their 800 number. What I did not realize was that I was automatically enrolled in their Triple Advantage Guarantee (some type of insurance policy against theft expenses) at $12.95 per month. It was posted on my credit card as "CIC*Triple Advantage(Services and Merchandise)." When I inquired about this expense, my credit card company told me they get a lot of calls on that -- and immediately told me that it was FreeCreditReport.com. I had been billed for the last four months! OUCH! My free credit report had cost me $51.80. Lesson #1: Review credit card charges with a fine tooth comb. Lesson #2: "Nothing is free."
