In August, 2010 I took custody of my teenage son becoming a single parent. While trying to adjust my income to meet those needs I had an auto accident, also during August, that cost me almost $1000 out of pocket. Already being behind on many bills because of the accident and the adjustment to my income I called Wells Fargo in late August because I knew I would be unable to make at least my Sept./Oct. mortgage payments while I was attempting to get caught up. I was told there was nothing they could do until I was behind. In October 2010 I was 2 months behind and called Wells Fargo again to try to obtain a loan modification but did not pre-qualify. I was told to call the H.O.P.E. line, which I did but again did not qualify because my home was bought in April of 2009, 4 months after the deadline. I called the veterans administration and was told only a lawyer could do a loan modification and was offered no more help.   Desperate, I called several law offices claiming to do loan modifications. After having conversations with several people Michael Chambers of the Freidland Law Center contacted me and claimed to be a former Marine(like me) and would make sure that I was taken are of because of that. I made sure to ask him about a refund in the event a loan modification was not obtained and he assured me they could do it because they had "Wells Fargo on their speed dial". I was sent the list of documents needed to do the review, collected them and sent them so, as he said, they could "finish the review". Needless to say I sent the documents on 3 different occassions over 2 1/2 months and after being passed to a different "agent" in mid January. After sending them for the third time and still no review being done and being told specifically not to contact wells fargo or I would be in breach of contract I called Wells Fargo again, pre-qualified and obtained a loan mod review on my own.   These people preyed on me at a very desperate time in my life and used my being a veteran to do it, took my money($1450) and almost lost my house.
