I have been feeding my dog FreshPet for 3 years and have been happy with it.  A month ago, my dog became very ill with Diarrhea, vomiting and loss of appetite.  Nothing had changed in her diet and she has not been around other dogs that may carry disease.  I noticed her food had an unsusual smell, not the usual fresh bologna odor I'm used to, and suspected they changed the recipe until she started to get sick.  Just in case, I threw the remaining food out and started cooking for her to get her back on track.  One month later, my sister, who lives in Washington (I'm in California) called to inform me that three out of four of her dogs were very sick.  She had bought the same FreshPet brand with the same expiration date I had, and suspected the food had made them ill.  The veterinarian told her she was pretty sure it was the food they were fed because the fourth dog, who eats a completely different diet due to illness, did not get sick.  I then realized that this particular batch must be contaminated and we should contact the manufacturer.  I wrote them, but have not received any reply.  My sister wrote, then called them, and they wanted her to send them the food back for testing at her expense with no assurance she would be reimbursed for the food (over 200.00 worth).  They told her it just couldn't be their food because they process it in such a way that bacteria can't take over.  After doing some research online, we found that a lot of people are having problems with this food and their dogs getting sick, but they are not very cooperative, nor do they recall food that is admittedly tainted - they had a mold issue in May.  Our biggest concern is that if dogs with an immune problem, old or puppies eat a contaminated batch, it could pose danger to their lives.  My dog was very sick.  If this was  a human issue, the FDA would jump on getting this tested and assure there is no contamination.  We can't afford to pay a lab to test this product, and are not sure that sending it back to the manufacturer will get an unbiased result.  Apparently they are  a bit arrogrant and non-responsive to concerns brought up by customers.  I will never buy their food again only because I didn't receive a call back, but I am very concerned for other dogs who could be affected more critically than mine.
