It all started with a phone call to my home thanking someone here for buying a new car. That should have raised a red flag. I told him he must have the wrong number but out of curiosity I asked him about trading my mother's car in on something new. He says sure, and the rest is history.

I reluctantly gave him my mothers SS number and other info and 5 minutes later he called back. She was approved and was told we could come down the next day and pick out what she wanted. Mind you she lives on Social Security which is only $937.00 per month.

The next day we went down to the used car section of Gates and spoke with Kevin, the salesperson who no longer works there along with the others who approved the loan, who sold us a beautiful 2003 Park Ave. after going through prices and payments to fit her budget we agreed on $270.00 per month with GMAC financing. Contracts were signed and out the door we went car and all.

The next Monday rolled around and we were called in to sign some additional paper work which seemed standard, so I thought. She was asked to sign an enrollment form for GMAC, however upon looking back I can't figure out why Dan the finance manager had his hand covering most of the form, it was so quick we didn't even sit down to sign, as he said just sign here and I'll take care of the rest.

Much to my demise I found out TCU ended up financing the vehicle at 18% with payments at almost $400.00 per month. The contract however said we were financed by GMAC not TCU which when reading the fine print makes the contract null and void. These people scratched GMAC off the contract and put TCU on it, the also falsified her income from $937.00 to $2800.00 per month.

This new contract was never seen by my mother or me until we received it in the mail. She could obviously by her income not afford a car with that payment, however Gates insists they did nothing wrong as well as TCU. TCU has since recovered the car and it has ruined my mother's credit. We called everyone involved and were offered no relief. These people need to be stopped as I believe they will continue this slamming technique.

Scott Sorry to here what Gates did to you and your family. I am from Lakeville and wrote to the Rip-off report two years ago about Gates. Maybe this will help, Gates had to buy back both of my trucks back from GMAC and Huntington and the General Mgr. Rick Meewes is no longer there after i got done with them.
