I applied for an auto loan for gateway chevrolet at first on the internet. i was later called at work and told congratulations you were approved for a loan to get a car. just bring proof of residency, latest check stub and drivers license. then i was told to come to gayeway cheverlot the following morning to meet with a sales rep.

first i got lost for a hour because of poor directions. then once i got there the person i was to see wasn't even there. they then gave to a differnt sales rep who keep eating sunflower seeds and spitting the huves in the ashtray. he made me fill out a application all over again, then left for 15-20 minutes and came back and told me I needed 500-1000 dollars down and a co-signer. after that i was very upset and told him you'll had me come way down here from racine wisconsin to tell me that.

he said calm down because other people where looking as i said i dont have time for no cat and mouse game. you can't just do people like that. then he proceeded to try to get me a loan in my daughters name who was with me and whom has no license. then he became rude and said we did'nt think you actually would come all that gas money i payed and toll fares and misses hours of work to be made a fool of.

Let me summarize what John wrote for the consumer's point of view. When people phone or e-mail, the dealer never actually does anything to process a loan. They just tell the potential buyer whatever they want to hear to get them to come into the dealer in person. Everyone is "approved!" Once the buyer is there in person, the dealer knows he or she is serious, and the process actually begins. It doesn't cost a dealer anything to send the person away if the deal can't be done. But if they tell someone "no" on the phone, they never get the chance to try and talk them into more money down, a lesser car, a co-signer, etc.

i am currenty a finance manager at a dealer. i strictly deal with customers with less than perfect credit. first off every customer that i deal with on the phone wants me to secure them a loan before they get to the dealer. now whats wrong with this? well let me elaborate! i cant tell you how many times i have gotten some one an auto loan after the customer has requested i do over the phone and never show up to the store! THESE LOANS ARE NOT EASY TO GET DONE. IT TAKES TIME AND EFFORT IN MY PART TO NAGOTIATE A LOAN THROUGH A LENDER. YOU ARE A HIGH RISK CUSTOMER. DO YOU THINK IT IS EASY TO GET THE LOAN. WRONG! i will process no loans unless the customers are here and willing to buy a car. i work extra hard on someone who shows in my store! there are so many different variables in obtaining an auto loan and most of them should not be discussed over the phone. ie: money down, co-signers, pay information, social security number and ect. you have to have every piece of the pie inorder to try to help someone with an autoloan. do you know why you are sitting at a dealer for hours? because you have bad credit and they are doing everything they can to finance you. that takes time!

Hi Lisa, I to filled out an online application only to be called by Gateway Kia, I received a call from Kevin Zago telling me he has me approved and all I needed was a copy of my check stub, DL, and a utility bill, I was scheduled to go on the day they called me but I felt that I was not going to go down there using my precious gas money to waste time, the next day I received a call from Kevin Zago telling me that yea I was certainly approved to come in a pick out a car. My situation was I have a Blazer but it is in m y mother name that I wanted to trade it in my mom has had the truck from 2 years when I told him I wanted to trade it in he said no problem, I did tell him I know I would be upside down on the trade he says that's ok I can take care of that, so he has me to fill out an application, he leaves and come back to tell me that I could not trade in the truck because it does not have enough equity in it. He goes on to tell me to just do a voluntary repo on the truck then have my mother to dispute the charges on her credit if the finance company Capital One comes after her, I asked him WHY WOULD I DO THAT? he goes so you can start of fresh with your own loan, he then goes on to say he has a person who disputes credit and gets things eliminated from people credit, my boyfriend was with me ane he asked Kevin if he could have the phone number of the young lady he deals with clearing up credit Kevin told him he would get it to him in a few minutes, when I told him I do not want to jeopardize my mother credit in that way he went back to see other options he comes back to ask me if I had a co-signer I told him NO AND I DON'T WANT ONE, then he goes can you put down $2,000? I TOLD HIM NO, then he says I see here you have late mortgage payment and that once I bring that current can I come back I told him he was full of crap and that they should stop getting consumers to come down on false pretenses ans waisting people time. He apologizes and looks stupid, then my boyfriend asked him for the young lady number to call regarding credit cleanup he goes on to say "OH I THOUGHT I HAD IT BUT IF YOU CALL ME TOMORROW MORNING I SHOULD HAVE IT" but at first he was so gong h*e on me using her to commit fraud on my mother credit.
