While I like Gateway computers, and have 4 to show for it, I recently decided to finance computer #3 through Gateway Credit. I found it ironic that the Hurley State Bank creditcard arrived before the computer did. I also noticed that it was based (at least payments were directed to) Gray, TN...home of Radio Shack's credit several years ago. (Gray TN is a very small town, sort of like having a Nieman Marcus located in the artic circle).

Anyway, I reviewed the terms after I received the card (holstein credit card!), and the terms were 28.9% APR!!! You have to be kidding, right? Well, I figured that I would pay the computer off quickly and avoid too much interest. The first payment was made 12-days before the end of cycle. I was still assessed an outrageous late fee, which pretty-much ate up the payment, in other words, no payment made. The second payment was made 10-days before the end of cycle. I was billed another late fee (again, no payment to principal). Pissed off, I sent a personal check for $1526, to FULLY pay off the card. The check was in mid-cycle. I received the next statement, and I had a balance of $29.00. This couldn't be right...I paid the card off. I called Hurley, and they were extremely rude...saying that my payment was LATE!!! I explained to them that before I hang up and call a lawyer, they really needed to check the payment date, when it was credited, versus end-of-cycle date. The woman on the phone suddenly (but still rudely), changed tactics and stated that since it was so close, that she 'guessed' that she would just 'knock that late fee off'! This isn't financing, people...this is loansharking at its best!!! I would love to have a business like this!!! Rip EVERYONE off, no-one sues, no-one knows what their state limits are for credit card interest...you can't beat it. It is legalized loansharking!!! By my count, they would have gotten $348 per year from the late fees alone (per person), plus extended the financing out for over 10-years at the rate they were going.

I just bought a new laptop on their credit card. I'm really hoping that they do it again. It will be about the time I file a class-action lawsuit on them. Maybe I'll get to own a business like that after all!!!

Computers are not worth this hassle. Where I could have waited two months and purchased it with cash, on a regular credit card, I opted for this idiotic service. The computers are as good as any other. The financing would be easier through the mafia...you choose.

I am told (TN Banking Authority 615 741 2236) that Gray TN is merely a processing centre for Hurley Bank. These businesses have Hurley Bank in common with each other. Hurley is owned by Citibank. I had phoned CareCredit 1800 584 1873 and was told: We don't give out a street address; We don't send the credit agreement until AFTER you receive a card. Just fill in your name and address on the brochure and we'll send you one; We don't accept any form of pre-arranged payment such as automatic bank transfers or post dated cheques; If we receive a late payment because of a mail hold up (disaster, Public Holiday, events beyond your control) we'll BELIEVE you; No that won't be in the terms and conditions of the credit agreement; You are the dentist's client. He is our merchant. Ask him or his reception anything else." Who is the bank or financial institution behind this credit card? Each time I rang the marketeer gave me a different answer. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS PURSUED THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST GATEWAY AND HURLEY STATE BANK IF SO, I TOO WOULD LIKE IN ON THIS! FOR NUMBER ONE THE COMPUTER I PURCHASED WAS A COMPLETE PIECE OF JUNK AND NUMBER TWO I OFFERED TO SEND IT BACK! WHEN NONE OF THERE SO CALLED COMPUTER TECHS COULD FIX THE PIECE OF CRAP FROM CRASHING. I FINALLY FIXED IT I THREW IT IN TRASH AND BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE FROM SOMEONE ELSE!! BE ADVISED DONT WASTE TIME OR MONEY ON GATEWAY COMPUTERS!!!! BOBBY

I am being ripped off right now by Hurley Bank and gateway. I paid a $500 to pay most of my account off before my billing date and was charged late fees. every payment I make has a late fee. If you sue count me in. It is bad for gateway to pick on people with slow credit. which I needed a computer for college.

I submitted a report a while back regarding the financial companies that GATEWAY COMPUTERS sells our accounts to. My problems came from a place called COMPUTER FINANCE, LLC. I have heard the horror stories involving HURLEY STATE BANK and others. EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME COMPLAINTS!!!!! You would think that a company as large as GATEWAY COMPUTERS would have more concern about their image and reputation. Using these idiots to manage their financing shows a distinct lack of care for their customers. Although I am basically happy with the computer I bought, I get a sick feeling every time I look at it knowing that the next statement I get from COMPUTER FINANCE,LLC (if I even get one) is going to be as accurate as a drunk kindergartener performing brain surgery.

i AM TOTALLY IN AMAZEMENT OF THIS COMPLAINT!! THE EXACT SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO MYSELF. AS I READ ALL THESE GATEWAY COMPLAINTS. WHY HASN'T ANY OF US INTELLIGENT CONSUMERS DONE SOMETHING? CLASS ACTION WOW DO WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE. I WOULD SAY SO. I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE SAME COMPAINTS OVER AND OVER. THEY ARE MAKING A KILLING OFF US. WE ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING. EXCEPT FIGHTING LOSING BATTLES WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT. LETS GET TOGETHER PUT OUR PROOF TOGETHER AND STOP THEIR TACTICS. LATE FEES EVERY MONTH, NOT POSTING OUR PAYMENTS, GETTING THEM LOST BECAUSE "THE ACCOUNT # WAS NOT ON YOUR CHECK" MINE GOT POSTED TO THE WRONG ACCOUNT SO THEY SAID. THEN IT TAKES THEM 30 DAYS TO FIGURE IT OUT AND GET IT RIGHT. PLEASE PLEASE WE HAVE TO ALL COME TOGEHTER ON THIS. I STILL AM IN COMPLETE AWE AT THE SAME INSTANCE OVER AND OVER. PERHAPS WE ALL NEED TO BE ON THEIR DOORSTEP WITH A VERY LARGE LAW SUIT IN HAND. I HAVE PROOF OF MY PAYMENTS. AND THAT THEY WERE SENT ON TIME. ITS TIME FOR LEGAL ACTION!!!!!!!
