Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I took my computer to geek squad to be worked on and they charge me 199.99 to diagnose and repair it in august of 2008.They removed my Norton antivirus and my mcafee and did not tell me that I needed a different antivirus to back it up. In October of 2008 the virus came back and I had to pay another 199.99 for them to diagnose and repair. But if I was told the first from the technician this could have been prevented I feel that I should get A refund. can you solve this for me. thank you . Ramon xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. The geek squad is listed on the ripoff report

While it may be true about the conflict of having 2 different AV programs, this person paid a so-called professional to repair the issue and instead was left completely vulnerable. Your rebuttal does not excuse the fact this person paid good money for a service they in fact did not receive, which is typical of Geek Squad and Best Buy employees. Were the (so-called) technician worthy of the title, they would have informed this customer that they're completeley unprotected when the customer picked up their computer. This apparent minor error (in your opinion only) is inexcusable and only proves how careless these people are. I don't pay a mechanic to remove my windsheild wipers because they may be conflicting and then excuse the fact after I've been in an accident due to rain? That's essentially what you're saying this customer should do and that it's their fault. You are a moron and should further refrain from anymore insane responses.

It's your responsibility to have protection software

Unfortunately the reason why you had malware to begin with was having Norton AND McAfee installed....first off, you can't have 2 anti-virus programs installed at the same time and also, both of those programs are pretty weak at detecting viruses. When Geek Squad repaired your computer, they had to remove both McAfee and Norton because they were probably corrupted and causing the computer to not function correctly. They should have mentioned this to you, but people make mistakes. However, it is your responsibility to keep your computer protected from malware. Geek Squad has a policy in place for this type of service, however, you must have them install and configure anti-virus software and you must keep it updated which would give you a 30 day warranty on that $199 service. If you did not opt for that service then there is no warranty against future infections. The only thing you can do at this point is talk to the Geek Squad managers at that location and explain your situation...the only thing they would offer to do at that point would be to perform a destructive restore on your computer....which means they would format your hard drive and reinstall your operating system to factory settings (using discs that you provide - if anyone tells you that Geek Squad keeps copies of your operating system, they are 100% false). This would mean that all of your files and programs would be gone unless you back them up first. I'm sorry that you had to pay $200 twice, but you can check with any other computer repair company, check with any computer manufacturer, etc. and none of them will provide any warranty on software issues.
