Valid proof of residence includes utility bills (land-line phone bill, electric, water, cable), W2 forms, bank statements, etc. Other proof such as leases, cellphone bills, record club memberships(!) are nice, but they usually are not considered valid proof. Underwriting generally will require two forms of proof. Ratejumping is common practice and rampant in NYC. It's amazing how many people live outside the City and yet have 212, 718, etc. area codes. Proof of residence is requested when something is out of kilter. Perhaps you have your drivers license address in Brooklyn, perhaps you had your photo inspection completed at a shop in Brooklyn. Perhaps you have a phone under your name in Brooklyn or you had an accident at or near your parents address in Brooklyn. For whatever reason, there is apparently cause for the underwriters to believe the vehicle is being kept there. The easiest (and only) way to have your policy rerated is to send the POR requested. Please don't send 60 pages of worthless documents, two good ones will do just fine.
