On December 30, 2009, I was contacted by George Craig to perform an appraisal of several items of furniture he was planning to sell at an estate sale. He was desirous of knowing how much the pieces might actually be worth so that he could avoid possibly being taken advantage of by the company holding the sale.
After a lengthy conversation I determined he would not need a complete, documented appraisal which could be a bit expensive but, instead, wouyld only require a simple in-home consultation and verbal valuation of the items which would cost him a one-time fee of $100.00 rather than my usual hourly fee of $125.00. During this conversation we determined a date (January 4, 2010) and a time (10:30 - 11:00 AM) for me to arrive at his home. At this time I clearly informed him that the time would have to be approximate as I would be driving slightly over 100 miles to his home from mine andreconfirmed BOTH of my contact phone #s with him which he said he was writing down as we spoke.
Having heard nothing from Mr. Craig in the intervening days, I arrived at his home only to be greeted by the words, "I tried to call and cancel the appointment on Friday and Saturday, but I kept getting the voicemail for BMW" from Mr. Craig...In other words, he spent time over two days repeatedly dialing a wrong number without bothering to check either the telephone directory (my ad is is fourth in the column under "Appraisers") or with Directory Assistance.
I explained to him that I had spent nearly two hours on the road to get to his home and he simply shrigged it off, repeating that he had "tried" to cancel the appointment and making no offer to reimburse me for my time or mileage.
Long story short: DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS PERSON...Either due to senility or intentional malice, he will waste your time and cost you money...Repeating the same action over and over again (i. e., repeatedly dialing a wrong number) while expecting a different result each time is indicative of a diminished mental state and I am out four hours of my time and drove over 200 miles, roundtrip for nothing.
