On June 5th 2015, I hired Giant Xpress via UNITED MOVING SERVICES. I was assured by United that I would get a binding estimate, assigned a 5 star moving company and a weight ticket from a certified weight scale at delivery. The experience was totally unprofessional. The movers that showed up to my home were out of uniform (something a 5 star company would not do) and in a rental truck. They did not have enough people or truck space to perform the job. The foreman, Mike’s only concern was that I was misquoted and that I was going to have to pay more. This was after they had started to load the truck. I tried calling United but no one was available to take my call. He continued to load and pack. One of the reasons he said I was going to have to pay more was because he was going to run out of packing materials. I took photos of the left over boxes of every size and asked him to explain how come he had boxes left over but he could not answer. He kept saying that if he would charge me the amount on my estimate, that he would get fired. Mike and his crew took a break and ordered pizza. They ate and left all of their trash (pizza boxes and coke cans) on my patio table, something a 5 star company does all the time I’m sure.

They stayed until midnight, way past business hours on 6-5 and promised to return on 6-6-2015 between 9 and 12 am. I explained to Mike that I was going to leave to Texas (from West Virginia)  as soon as they finished packing and he assured me that he would be here before noon and that he had 2 to 3 hours left to pack. I called Mike at 11:45 because he had not showed up and he told me that he was running late. I asked how come he had not called me and he said “I was just about to call you.” He said that some people did not show up to work and made him fall behind schedule. I told Mike that a 5 star company has a backup plan to take care of issues like this but all he kept giving me was excuses. He shows up a 2:30 pm and with 1 helper and does not finish until 8pm. At this point I was extremely upset especially since I was going to have to put my family on the road at night. I expressed my concern to him about this and he said “how do you think I feel, I have to drive back all tired too.” I told him that I did not care about him and his wellbeing and that his customer service skills were the WORST I have ever encountered.

The delivery was just as terrible, I had to see them unload every box poorly packed, unlabeled, and crushed. It has been one of the hardest things we have had to endure, to see people just mistreat, abuse and just have no care or concern about our belongings. They kept saying, “its ok, you can file a claim.” This claim will not begin to cover my over $6000 worth of damaged and stolen items. I can understand one or two items missing but to have 17 items missing that is clear Theft. Giant Xpress has to be the worst moving company out there. They had set up a queen size bed in one of the bedrooms that was not ours, we told them it was not ours and they removed it from our home.  Items that had been dissembled arrived missing the screws.

I feel that I should be compensated more than the .60 cents on the pound, especially for the items that were stolen from us. I feel violated. Like I said, I understand that a couple of items can be damaged or missing but to have that many is preposterous!

I would also like to be reimbursed for the amount charged over my original binding estimate and for the packing. The difference between the estimates is $1047.04 and the full packing service was $2496.65.

I tried calling United and Giant Xpress but it appears that they have my number flagged and they do not answer my calls.

To this day I have not received a phone call or apology for my losses from either company.

10-19-2015. I recieved a settlement email saying that they are willing to pay me $64. I thought I was being punked...
