A number of credit card companies now offer "Virtual Credit Card" numbers. These numbers are single-use, and are tied to your "real" card. When I am buying something online or mail order, I go to the site for my credit card company, log in, and request a new Virtual Number. That number will only work once, and you can even set a limit on the charge amount. The charge will show up on your regular bill. This is much easier than cancelling your account. These single-use numbers will solve a lot of these problems like GGW or CP Direct where they keep billing you every month and don't let you cancel.
