Glenn Kawesch is a ruthless dishonest greedy LASIK surgeon. He declares everyone a perfect candidate just so that he can get his dirty hands on your eyes and your wallet. He was disciplined for Medicare fraud back in 1997, but that did not stop him from his greedy ways. LASIK came along and he found a new cash cow. He has been brought to court more than 20 times and he has settled a lot of them to keep things quiet.

The Attorney General of California and the Medical Board wanted to revoke his license but a judge who did not know how many victims' lives he had ruined decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. So now he continues his rampant surgery. It used to be maybe one person every 10 minutes like cows heading to slaughter. When I went to him he assured me I was a perfect candidate, that LASIK was better for me than PRK.

Then right after the surgery when I had terrible headaches due to dry eyes they did not do anything. I had to figure everything out for myself and it was a very terrible experience I do not wish for anyone. He also assured me that the LASIK flap heals in 24 hours. Well Glenn Kawesch, if it did heal in 24 hours how the hell were you able to lift it back up after three months. Liar. Cheater. Stealer. Mangler.

You do not deserve to be called doctor. Remember the Hippocratic oath? Do no harm? Yeah right. Glenn Kawesch has also had his offices searched and investigated by the IRS. He has also been scolded by former San Diego Mayor Susan Golding for improperly using her image for his marketing purposes.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot how his salespeople use hard sale tactics to close the deal on you when you are still deciding whether you even want the surgery or not. I believe Glenn Kawesch has also been part of a paternity suit. His methods are so incompetent, and careless and show no regard for the welfare of his patients. All he cares about is the welfare of his bank account.

If you ever ever come across this guy, stay away. Go to the more reputable clinics like the Shiley Eye Center is San Diego. But most of all, think twice about LASIK eye surgery. There are other alternatives like PRK that might be better for some people.

Glenn Kawesch's assistants don't look like doctors, they look like butcher's assistants, or a pirate's gang. Caveat emptor. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I had eye surgery, by Dr. Glenn Kawesch, many years ago. It was something like 10 years ago. It was the eye flap surgery and at the time I was disappointed. There was a lot of discomfort and I could not see well for several weeks. I have only one eye so I was really questioning if I did the right thing. I read all the caveats so I knew that all this could happen but I was hoping for the best-case seriano. Well, in a few more weeks I could see fine and also read. I was told that I might need reading glasses and I do have a pair but I usually read without them. Well, this year I developed diabetes and I went to a specialist to get my eyes checked, as eye problems are common with diabetics. I told the eye specialist that I had the laser, eye flap procedure. He examined my eye and then called his buddy over to take a look. There was no evidence of any procedure being done on my eye. There was no scar tissue or any other signs of surgery. I realized then that somebody did a really good job on my eye. You can say this and that or whatever you want but "Eye of the beholder" and all that good stuff.

I have had two LASIK procedures performedby Dr. Kawesch. The first was the actual "correction" and the 2nd was an enhancement about a year later. I am extremely satisfied with the medical care I received from Dr. Kawesch. The procedure and the potential risk was fully explained to me. My surgery was painless and I went from being legally blind to PERFECT vision! I have referred relatives, co-workers, and friends to him over the years. (Dr. Kawesch would not know me unless he pulled my chart. I came upon this slanderous report as I was searching the web for a LASIK doctor in the SF Bay Area for my wife. I no longer live in SoCal). I heard about the IRS issues; that has nothing to do with medical ethics. (Anyone who claims to have never "cheated" on their taxes is a liar). I am glad to see Dr. Kawesch is back! Perhaps I will take a trip to SoCal with my wife for her procedure. (My sister traveled all the way from Munich, Germany to see Dr. Kawesch).

This doctor did my eyes years ago and I had perfect vision from the same day on (until I hit my 40's). This is the best thing I have ever done for myself, getting rid of contacts made my life much easer....I'm a makuep artist and my vision is very important to me. I have read all the bad press about this Doctor and assume a lot of it is due to the fact that he is such a prominent doctor and I'm sure the other doctors in his field would LOVE to see him out of business. About 2 years ago I started to need reading glasses and so went to another eye doctor 6 months ago for a surgery to correct this because of all the bad press and troubles I assumed Dr Kawish was out of business. Now I am very unhappy with this 2nd surgery and this was done by the most respected doctor in San Diego (will not metion names here) he never explained to me that I would still need reading glasses!!! Dr Kawish did tell me years ago that when I got older I would need reading glasses, he took the time to be honest about the results, the other doctor never did. I am sorry this poster had a bad experience but given the number of these proceedures done I have no doubt there are a few people unhappy with the results but from all the people I have talked to that number is very small. I'm not sure the percentage of patients unhappy with this procedure but everyone I personally know that has had it done has been very satisfied. Just to let you know that I have not been sent here by Dr Kawish (I was doing a search on another doctor and this thread came up) I am a real patient I will include my email if anyone would like to email me. I have not spoken with Kawish since the day of my surgery many years ago. I just wanted to point out that there are always people unahappy with the results of every procedure out there, and you will always hear about the unhappy customers, the happy customers just dont speak up very often so I thought I should.

I would like to take this opportunity to respond to the allegations of "Fred" from Alpine, CA. First of all, I would like to point out that I have never seen nor operated on a person named Fred from Alpine. If he is truly a patient of mine, he should be willing to come forward with his real name so that I might be able to evaluate his situation and address his concerns. If he is not really a patient of mine, but is a competitor trying to harm me, than that is a disgusting use of what could be a great forum. I will go through his allegations paragraph by paragraph and address them. He calls me "ruthless, dishonest, and greedy" and claims that I commited Medicare fraud. Judge Roy W. Hewitt found in November 2003, "[Kawesch] was not involved in billing for services not rendered, rendering unnecessary procedures, Medicare Fraud, Medi-Cal fraud or any other type insurance fraud, or dishonest acts related to patient care." As to the claims that I am greedy, Hewitt wrote, "[Kawesch] has a long history of donating money, time, and services to civic and charitable organizations. [He] donated free surgeries to silent auctions for hospitals, schools, church functions, etc. [He] has also volunteered to perform free refractive surgery on military heroes returning from the Gulf War and Iraq." Fred talks about malpractice cases, but I have never lost a case that has gone to court. Judge Hewitt wrote, "[Kawesch] has performed over 33,000 refractive surgeries without a single proven incident, in the present proceedings, of any substandard care. Additionally, [Kawesch] has no record of any other disciplinary proceedings or administrative actions against his license during his 17 years as a licentiate. Such an unblemished record indicates that as far as quality of patient care, surgical skill, medical practice and ability, and the proper exercise of sound clinical judgment are concerned, [Kawesch] rates an A+ (outstanding)." Fred insults Judge Hewitt by saying he didn't know how many lives that I had ruined. In fact, Hewitt wrote, "given the unwarranted, adverse publicity this case generated there can be no doubt that any current or former patient with any type complaint against [Kawesch] would have come forward. In fact, [the Medical Board] even went so far as to solicit patient complaints." Fred claims that I told him that he was a "perfect candidate". I would never use the word perfect because there is no perfection in medicine and there is no such thing as a perfect candidate. I cannot respond to Fred's allegations about his post-op care, because I do not know his real name or even if he really is a patient. Given his real name, I would go through his chart and respond to allegations about his post op care. What I tell patients about flap healing is that the surface layer of epithelial cells cover the flap in 24 hours, but the patient needs to be careful not to rub the eye for 1-2 weeks. The healing of the prescription usually takes about 3 months and that is the time when enhancements are performed. Flaps, while healed, can be lifed for years after LASIK. Fred's IRS claims are true. I have admitted wrongdoing regarding my taxes and paid the penalty for those actions. Even the medical board has admitted that the tax issue had nothing to do with the quality of care in my practice. Candis Cohen, spokeswoman for the California Medical Board said in the May 20, 2004 issue of the San Diego Union-Tribune, "There is no evidence that his acts affected patient care." Mayor Golding was thrilled with the results of her procedure and was unaware that she was not allowed to be used in testimonial advertising. She provided her testimonial and photos to us for use. Hopefully, I have made clear the inaccuracies stated by "Fred". I would love to help Fred, if he would come forward and allow me to do so. Sincerely,
